It appears to say they had some sort of contact with the D-H family rather than the year 9 student specifically. Not sure when that was produced but it's been overtaken by the later announcement in the 3pm press conference that the link was the two mothers going for a walk together.

umm liaison is a very strong word that traditionally means something along the lines of a four letter word starting with F

No, not really but you'd hope that the MoH rep was then leaving a voice message to contact them... I often let calls I do not know ring out and then I'll listen to the voice message so that when I call back I can have more details to hand if needed.

People dont have voicemail, its annoying and anyone worth hearing from will send a text.

This could be because most mobile telcos charge when you ring up to listen to voice mail. So many people ask the telco to cancel voice mail. I have also notice that a lot of poeple who have voice mail, say in the voice message to txt or email, as they don't monitor to voice mail, so they don't get charged.

Maybe telcos could make voice mail free to avoid this, as communication seems to be part of the problem

No, its because they don't want it when there are better ways to be contacted. work has someone who insists on leaving them on customers phones even when they say not to leave them and we get complaints about it because they have to clear it out and they want to be send an email or a text.

I read on one other article that they sent the people a letter on certain dates. FFS this is important so get someone in decent PPE banging on their door and surrounding the house till they try to leave, not sent a letter.

I believe calls to voicemail are free/included in Vodafone’s plans. So which telco’s actually charge for calls to voicemail?

You have no idea whether they did or not and you are contributing to the lynch mob mentality. If you have facts fine but this sort of speculation is what leads to people leaving isolation with their heads covered in rubbish bags..

For me personally it was never about the money, it was about the slow and archaic system of “You have one new message. Received today at…”.

Thankfully I have Spark’s “visual voicemail” app now so I can listen to messages right away without having to sit through 17 minutes of a slow audio menu telling me to press 1, press 2, etc.

I guess my point is, voicemail is such an old school system and I think a lot of younger folk find it cumbersome and painful.

We can blame people breaking the rules all we want, but it doesn't change the fact that a fundamental failing by public health is still a real issue here.

If the original Papatoetoe high school student and family had been contacted by MoH or DHB staff and been tested when everybody else at the school had been tested then we potentially wouldn't be in the position we are now. You would have probably had no KFC or Kmart case, and the 21yr old would probably would not have been in contact with the family.

The fact they just kept trying to ring them for over a week and nobody seemed to think that maybe going around to door knock was a smart idea now looks like a very big oversight.

Yip. There appears to be some "dissonance" in advice.

Vodafone prepay has a $0.20 charge per call . Not big, but can add up if people don't answer their phone and have to make multiple calls to voice mail each day. I personally disabled mine.

It's at the bottom. Data from MoH

It's genomic data. Not who bonked who.
That's been well established already.

Let it die.

@handle9 - Thanks for posting that, does shed a new angle on this.

The sidebar comments that have been coming out from the government regarding this outbreak and the previous 'employer forced employee to work with symptoms' may very well discourage folks from being completely honest out of fear of being thrown under the bus. There are ways and means of dealing with these breaches without waving red meat to the crowd.

It sounds like the government (through the MoH) may have A. miscommunicated the expectations and B. failed to choose the right media to communicate their messages. It would be my expectation that at a bare minimum, phone calls or 2 way text messages would be used (with acknowledgement) rather than letters.

Speaking of buses - I did see an AT Metro bus yesterday evening. Bus driver had no PPE/Mask and the disembarking passenger did not either. Is Auckland getting tired of the restrictions (given nearly 1K of them went to a west Auckland beach)?

Kid speak: bussing it - it means having a mask on but pulled down under your nose.  Comes from all the bus drivers that wear their masks like this.
