Church gathering in Level 3 given a Police warning. Its becoming a farce now. I used to get annoyed when luck was used for our great response and results to date, 100,000 plus and just a few issues. But going by the blatant complacent shown recently, its all luck from here on. Luck that a carrier is a good person. Or not.

vexxxboy:

i can see now that every person that is taken to hospital feeling unwell is getting the full panic headline in the media even though they know they are negative for Covid 19. Have to get the clicks i guess.

If you mean yesterday's akl to queenstown flight. That was trial by lynch.

They got on a plane. Willingly. While sick.

yes but the otago times article only mentioned it wasnt covid 19 in the last sentence of the article , basically the whole article was sick woman taken to hospital ,nothing to do with covid 19

Common sense is not as common as you think.

It didn't need to be about Covid. It was making light of the current AKL situation and beatup of people not following advise. Likely didn't just come down with something in the 2hr flight. So is being made an example of someone who didn't follow the instructions mentioned in the article and now being investigated.

Anyone feeling unwell is asked not to travel and, even if they are not travelling, they are asked not to enter the terminal at Queenstown Airport.

Stolen from Reddit:

Let's review the greatest hits of these 3 families

1. Family 2 of more than 5 people who's a close contact didn't pick up the calls of MOH for 11 days. When they finally did, it was too late anyway, cos all 5 tested positive already

2. Family 2 had secret meetings under level 3 and not disclose to contact tracers

3. Family 3 had private house viewing and not upfront about it initially to the contract tracers

4. Then we've got a family 4 with gym boy that runs all around town while symptomatic and only got tested a week after being symptomatic

5. Like he's not done enough, Gym boy gets the test goes straight to the most crowded gym chain in the country to spread it even more

6. Gym boi and his family keeps quiet until push got to shove and then they reveal about the secret meeting with family 2

7. Family 3 refused test but didn't self isolate yet we've got tons of people supporting their livelihood depended on them being out and about

Goes to prove that the affected community can't be trusted to do the right thing tbh

Press release:

Community and social service support providers have again swung into action to help people and families affected by the current COVID-19 alert levels.

“The Government recognises that in many instances social service, community, iwi and Whānau Ora organisations are best placed to provide vital support to the communities impacted by COVID-19,” says Minister for Social Development Carmel Sepuloni.

“Funding allocated to these services in Budget 2020 is helping providers meet the immediate need created by COVID-19 and plan for increased demand.

“MSD are in contact with social service providers in Auckland, and the feedback they are receiving is that while providers are busy, they are well placed, and able to meet the needs of the community.

“One area experiencing increased demand is foodbanks.  The Auckland Food Secure Network is doing great work getting food to vulnerable families and is operating in Level 3 under strict Health and Safety protocols. Emergency Food Grants are also available through Work and Income for people who qualify.

“I am receiving regular reports from MSD and so far I’m confident there is sufficient support in place to help the Auckland community at this time.

“I want to encourage anyone who needs help to reach out to the services in their community, or contact Work and Income on 0800 559 009 for guidance.

“The Papatoetoe helpline that was set up for the school community is still in operation and will continue to provide bespoke support to the community most affected by this outbreak,” says Carmel Sepuloni.

Minister for Whānau Ora Peeni Henare  says “Commissioning Agencies have activated their respective alert level settings and are working with at least 19 Māori and Pasifika community providers in Tāmaki Makaurau to get assistance and information to whānau.

“They have quickly stood up mobile testing stations to support at-risk communities, and redeployed support for foodbanks, with six food hubs planned for Auckland over the next week.

“We are targeting communications through their networks and workforce so whānau are informed and have clear direction about alert level guidelines and public health information.

“One of the agencies Te Pūtahitanga o Te Waipounamu is coordinating the distribution of 120,000 masks and another, Pasifika Futures, is supporting the distribution of 1,000 education packs to keep young people connected and engaged over lockdown,” says Peeni Henare.

“We know that families can come under increased strain during Level 3 and family violence support services are available,” says Carmel Sepuloni.  “If you feel unsafe and need support, please get in touch with the Police, or a local family violence support provider who will help guide you and get the help you need.

“There is also support for your young people who may need it through local service providers, MSD or Youthline, who are operating and ready to help during Level 3.

“If you need support please reach out,” says Carmel Sepuloni.

A list of providers who have been funded to provide support during the COVID-19 pandemic can be found here: https://www.msd.govt.nz/about-msd-and-our-work/newsroom/2020/covid-19/supporting-communities.html

They may not be facing criminal charges, but it'd be a pretty interesting day in court if say Kmart or KFC filed a civil complaint for damages. They may have cause under negligence and causality but I'd hazard a guess it still wouldn't fly (public interest / slippery slope) but just to see how far it actually went. I'd hazard a guess there would be a lot of small businesses that would relish the opportunity of recovering some of the losses caused by these idiots.

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/covid-19-coronavirus-miq-fees-for-temporary-visa-holders-set-to-skyrocket/

It currently costs temporary entry visa class holders $3,100 for 14 days in managed isolation.

This will balloon to $5,520 for the first or only person in a room, $2,990 for an additional adult, and $1,610 for an additional child.

The price hike affects those with visitor visas (such as partners of a New Zealand citizen or resident), student visas, work visas and limited visas

The hammer has fallen as it were.

Shame they don't actually seem to go chasing you if you don't pay up. Seems to be just a deterrent. (48/826 in Oct 2020 had paid)

Also badly timed for all the nurses and health workers from Asia/India recently on tv trying to get their partners and children in who were pre-changes so don't qualify for slots (although was 'being looked at')

Just got a Stuff alert. Young people say Govt's Covid 19 message is too old too stale and way too long

There you have it, can't be bothered

Its old as its been a year

Its stale as its repeating the same message

Its long because its important

It seems this team of 5 million is failing, the great pity is most of us aren't, but we will all wear the results

Actually it’s a fair comment. When you need to read 20-30 tweets to get the info that’s an unhelpful messaging style. Not to mention the “out of an abundance of caution” waffle. Just tell us the venues and actions that need to be taken. Also much of it ends in “call healthline 0800 etc etc” repetitive unnecessarily. If it’s the same advice for the following groups then list that first. Then the venues.

Alternatively link to a site that’s formatted well for phones as people check news on the go and it’s annoying to be swiping back and forth to read across the table.

Comms team need to take on board the feedback given and improve.

As an aside, I feel Public Health underestimated the nature of a school cluster in a lower socioeconomic area and the challenges that brings. On top of that a variant of concern.

Repeated phone calls and texts expecting a different outcome is the very definition of madness. And sending a letter to follow up is an approach that should be left back in the stone ages. Our mail services were scaled back long before COVID and I’ve still had problems not receiving mail. Public health should have been on the doorsteps earlier.
