"The Government aimed to ramp up to 50,000-60,000 vaccinations a day, Hipkins said"

It will be interesting to see if this is achieved ...!

Even Singapore, who are ~2 months further down the track with a larger (+15%) and much more readily accessible population, have only hit a maximum 7-day average rate of ~40,000/day (down to ~35,000/day to 29 Mar).

UK average rate over the week to 29 Mar was ~0.83/day/100 people, equating to ~42,300/day for a population the size of NZ.

It's achievable if there is sufficient resource. They are routinely administering 120k+ doses here in the UAE. The population is roughly 10 million so that says it's achievable.

I think we should be resourcing to get those numbers done.

Pharmacies, Medical centers, vaccination centers, and workplace mobile vaccination clinics all working together should move the doses fast.

As an example, we have 900 pharmacies in NZ. If on average each could give 50 vaccines a day, this would be 45,000 a day...

I think the vaccination centers will get the bulk of the media attention, but the medical centers & pharmacies will do the heavy lifting.

The Hard bit is the cold storage, once at regular fridge temps (2-8C) you have 5 days to use it..

Also I'm not sure about the storage of half used vials,  Must you use a vial with the day you take out the first dose??

@Handle9: Interesting. More dissonance.

The source is a tweet posted from an account created just this month, linking to a post on a website that contains nothing but the press release only. The author seems to be a Young Nat. That says it all really.

I do not think you should share this. I call it bullshit - or fake news.

Not only that but their FB page says that they wanted to vote against abortion and contraceptive a while ago.

Bit gross and shows that they really care about women's rights /s

I will say it again: keep your politics out of this thread.

Also, no spreading of misinformation/disinformation.

I have edited that tweet out of the post.

Yep. Slapped wrist.

On topic discussion: Both me and my fiancée will be getting the vaccine the moment July rolls around. We have no plans to wait around but I HOPE there's a robust booking system by that time otehrwise I could see this all collapsing with delays or gaps between jabs.

The last step in the current process when getting your first jab is to make the booking for the second. You don't exit until that is done.

If I have to wait a bit longer to get a Pfizer jab then I'll wait.

I think you're an optimist expecting that this will be able to happen!

In the early stages, the logistic's seem workable.

Distribute the ultra cold freezers at a few key locations (Upper / lower north island & Upper / lower south island?). Sunday 6pm, move quota's of doses for the week for each dispensing location from the ultra cold freezer to a cold chain (Fridge temp) chilly bin for distribution. Dispatch on urgent couriers in the middle of the night, for distribution to vaccination location's before noon Monday. Mass vaccination appointments from noon Monday to Close of business Wednesday. Thurs & Friday to find overflow people before the vaccines expire start expiring at 6pm friday.

High volume vaccination locations could get two shipments per week, and operate 7 days a week.

Re vial's, only a 6 hour window once it is diluted, but if low volume dispensing locations didn't open new vials in the last hour or so of business I don't think there would be waste.

Before general vaccinations open, it will be very easy to find overflow people to avoid wastage.

Issues will start cropping up as we get the end of our roll out, and unvaccinated, willing people near vaccination centers become hard to find.

Along with myself and I guess 500k+ others who will be trying to get it the first week the general public becomes eligible.

Has the potential to be a huge mess.

I'm guessing there will need to be some kind of metering to keep the flow rate workable when we get to the general public. If I remember correctly in the movie contagion, they used first letters of names, drawn at random.

Somehow I think it will be like MIQ, when many appointments get dumped at once, and it is a game of fastest finger.

I seriously hope it is not like community covid-19 testing centers (when we have flair ups), where people wait in multi hour queues of cars.
