Scott3:I'm guessing there will need to be some kind of metering to keep the flow rate workable when we get to the general public. If I remember correctly in the movie contagion, they used first letters of names, drawn at random.
Prime Minister caught spreading false information with regards to communications made to the KFC Botany worker, known as Case L.
I feel really sorry for the person. While there name was withheld, there is enough info in the wild for other's in that school / workplace to know who they were. And of course they have very limited means of respone compared to the government.
Sadly It seems the Prime Ministers office isn't willing to publicly apologise.
Say what you will but if I was the sibling of a confirmed case, I would isolate anyway.

Batman: Did person go to work knowing sibling was covid positive or before the test came back positive?
If the latter and the specific instruction was that you can go to work then there's nothing wrong? Coz not going to work if well would be defying moh orders and kfc management could get tricky?
It all depends on the specifics
MoH can tell you not to go to work but can't tell you to go to work.

On topic discussion: Both me and my fiancée will be getting the vaccine the moment July rolls around. We have no plans to wait around but I HOPE there's a robust booking system by that time otehrwise I could see this all collapsing with delays or gaps between jabs.
Along with myself and I guess 500k+ others who will be trying to get it the first week the general public becomes eligible.
Has the potential to be a huge mess.

Somehow I think it will be like MIQ, when many appointments get dumped at once, and it is a game of fastest finger.
I seriously hope it is not like community covid-19 testing centers (when we have flair ups), where people wait in multi hour queues of cars.
The adverts on the radio seem to indicate that they will advise you when it's your turn for vaccination rather than pitching up to get one when your ready so no free for all in the first week.
...Because its a long holiday weekend and this thread feels like it needs a bit of fun :)
Alt-text: Then I'm going to go on a weeks-long somatic hypermutation bender, producing ever-more targeted antibodies, while I continue to remain distanced and follow guidance from public health authorities.
sbiddle:Now we suddenly have hundreds of MIQ spaces popping up for April and the next few months.. And nobody seems to be able to explain why.
When these were as scarce as hens teeth as little as a week ago surely somebody at MBIE can explain why there are now hundreds free!

Case I (the Papatoetoe high student who is the sister of the KFC worker) only got her +ve test result back after case L (the sister who is the KFC worker) had completed her shift. The family were then immediately all moved to the MIQ quarantine facility where case L then tested positive a few days later on the 26th.
Oblivian:
To add to the mix, 2nd story was about the need for a 2 week gap between flu and a covid jab. 4wks for mmr.
That'll be fun to work around!
I have a friend who is trained for the Covid vaccine who was telling me earlier last month ago about the 14 day gap requirement. She couldn't quite understand how all elderly in South Auckland who were seemingly going to be prioritised for the Covid vaccine were also going to be able to get their influenza vaccines which are also prioritised to them from mid April. Out influenza vaccine rollout this year is a lot later then normal.

GV27:If I have to wait a bit longer to get a Pfizer jab then I'll wait.

From the media, apparently the flu shots are turning up on the 14th of this month (a little later than normal), and we have ordered a lot of them (300k more than last year, which was a record volume).
From a contact in primary care, apparently the deal is as follows:
When the flu shots arrive they are to vaccinate as many people as possible as quickly as possible. (As a general rule they focus on the high risk groups which are eligible a free flu jab first). When covid-19 vaccines start turning up to primary care, that is to become the priority for those elegiable (Potentially delaying the flu jab by 5 weeks for some)
Should note that the flu vaccine isn't actually very important this year as we don't have any circulating influenza in the community. Seems we are just going ahead with the annual influenza vaccination program as normal, to keep supply chains alive, to keep people used to getting it & because of some possible commutative immunity effect from annual jabs, and because of the risk of re-emergence of influenza as we start re-opening to travel. Still I'm going to get one.
