Well Vanuatu is one of our Pacific neighbours, a source of RSE workers arriving here, and had been relatively C19 free.

The other aspect is how come a worker with Covid ended up in the sea?   You hear stories of how some crew are treated, if true then biffing a dead body over the side for the sharks - in the hope that you can cover up an onboard epidemic of Covid - lest that disrupt "normal operations" and profit for the owners, it seems probable enough to be newsworthy.

The ship is now in Sydney.

https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/sydney-port-workers-tested-for-covid-19-after-infected-crew-docked-at-port-botany-20210422-p57loa.html

No, the Ship WAS in Sydney before it went to Vanuatu

"Inge Kosan bulk liquid ship left Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea and docked in Sydney for 24 hours from March 31. It left for Vanuatu the next day."

Oh it was too - my bad.

It showed up on marine tracking site off the NSW coast - I didn't notice that the last tracked position was 21 days ago.  I wonder if the timing of their transponder "not working" roughly ties in with the time the crew member died and a realisation that they had a bit of a problem.

You seem to have a thing for 'end of the world' posts. Here is another perspective from the Times of India.

And next day they report this:

I have little doubt that things are extremely grim in India.

I also don't doubt that and wasn't trying to imply such, but this seems to have more to do with India's notoriously inept top-heavy bureaucracy than lack of supply as such. Also, the shortage isn't the same everywhere. There is more to this than just the oxygen ran out and there isn't any more.

China has offered to supply India with oxygen - Modi has declined the offer.

A lovely feel-good story, presumably put out by the Delhi police PR department.

Whilst you have to admire the Delhi police for their ability to get that oxygen, you have to wonder why they didn't get any notification until only 2 hours before the oxygen ran out.

And presumably an oxygen tanker driver is a skilled person who knows how to connect safely to hospital systems and so on. I wouldn't be surprised if India starts to run into logistical problems as oxygen tanker drivers and so on succumb to covid.

I have been seeing stories in various sources that there are oxygen tankers on the way but they are being held up at state borders by bureaucratic formalities. Don't know if this is true.

Is "bureaucratic formalities" a euphemism for "paying the man" ?

Nobody knows anything - if they did it wouldn't work so well.

VIC has a positive case that exited MIQ in Perth and subsequently flew across the country on a regular flight

1) All pax are now being asked to quarantine and get tested...

2) Shows their situation with potential cross infection in MIQ is in a similar state to ours... a bit rubbish...

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-04-23/passenger-returning-from-perth-tests-positive-for-covid/100090166

By itself it wont affect the bubble, but further spread could alter some settings?

My read is that it seems to be another case of Hotel VENTILATION spread.
We seem to be changing our focus early this year to this, after mainly looking for surfaces.
Now our focus is upgrading Hotel ventilation as breathing/talking/singing in a 'room next door', an elevator, or next to a bin etc is all you need.

This Perth case seems to be another room to room transfer .
Pregnant nurse avoided coronavirus in UK before being infected in WA hotel quarantine - ABC News

Edit, I type therefore I typo.

More countries (for those complaining there was a bias against India)... Watch: Covid Response Minister Chris Hipkins reveals travel ban for 'very high risk countries' - NZ Herald

New Zealand permanent residents from four countries where Covid is rampant will be blocked from coming directly to New Zealand under changes designed to reduce the number of infected arrivals.

New Zealand citizens, their parents, and partners and children of Kiwi citizens will still be able to come home from those countries - India, Brazil, Pakistan and Papua New Guinea.
