U.S. Drop In Vaccine Demand Has Some Places Turning Down Doses | HuffPost

Quotes from the above article

“All of the strong Christians that I associate with are against it,” she said. “Fear is what drives people to get the vaccine — plain and simple. The stronger someone’s trust is in the Lord, the least likely they are to want the vaccine or feel that it’s necessary.”

Oh Dear the halo of religious invincibility.

"The 32-year-old said she got COVID-19 last year, along with her 5- and 12-year-old sons and her husband. B
lood tests detected antibodies for the virus in all four of them, so she figures they’re already protected."

The halo of naivety.

“I believe in vaccines that have eradicated terrible diseases for the past 60, 70 years. I totally and fully believe in that,” said Farr, who works at an accounting firm. “Now a vaccine that was rushed in six, seven months, I’m just going to be a little bit more cautious about what I choose to put into my body.”

The halo of cautiousness and fallibility.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

"We must have a bubble" they cried.

"We need a bubble now!" they shouted.

Covid 19 coronavirus: Health officials contacting 1000 people who flew from Perth to NZ - NZ Herald

Yes, this is part of the deal to have a bubble. But 1000 people? As a result of a couple of cases in Perth we probably have to trace a lot of people - 1000 people is not a small number.

There are no new community Covid cases in New Zealand as health teams begin contacting about 1000 recently arrived passengers on direct flights from Perth.

West Australian city Perth and its neighbouring Peel region went into a three-day lockdown this morning after authorities discovered two people with Covid-19 had been in the community for five days.

That led New Zealand to suspend quarantine-free travel to the state, with the Ministry of Health saying it was keeping an eye on the situation in partnership with its Australian counterparts.

"About 1000 pa ssengers who have arrived in New Zealand on direct flights from Perth on April 19, 21 and 23 are being contacted and provided with advice," the Ministry said in a statement.

However, health teams still deemed the risk - as of last night - to the country of infection from Perth as being as low.

I don’t see the need of a bubble, the risk of economic damage as well as people’s health just seems to high to me. Yet for some reason there is a massive insistence on it.
If both countries are COVID free, and not having leaks fine. But while people can come in from countries not COVID free (something about human rights), then bubble risk to high.

it's not human rights. America's cup is not human rights. Netflix is not human rights. Also fishing boats and sewer repairs . just to name a few

The thousands of NZers that come back I’ve seen it in the media many a time that they can’t be stopped coming back because they have the human right of return, even though who knows how long before they’re off again.
Yes in the cases you’ve mentioned it’s not human rights for those people to come but for an essential service supply or just to make money and supply entertainment.
With those cases of fewer people though, surely a leak would be less likely then thousands coming back.
Anyway my point wasn’t about whether people should come back or not, but that a bubble between countries is not wise if thousands are coming back into each country, which makes leaks more likely.
The super yacht got turned away from here because it’s bubble was to big.

Though if the same crew have all been at sea together for months, with no other contact then very unlikely to have it. Plus I find it bizarre that if they sent 1/3 crew home then it would be ok, they’ve all been in contact with each other.

WA premier has a bit of a go at Australian PM for allowing Aus citizens to fly overseas and back for weddings, and then rely on leaky / unfit for purpose hotels to be used for quarantine.

Ive been to-ing and fro-ing on it. What are the benefits? For every tourist that arrives here to spend, there is another that took their NZ dollars to spend in another economy.

And here is why this bubble is stupid: Covid 19 coronavirus: Australians exploit Tasman bubble to use New Zealand to get to other countries - NZ Herald

What if contact tracing requires getting information from "Tim Byrnes"? What if Tim is identified as a close contact, but he already left the country?

No, I don't think this "bubble" is good.

An Australian art teacher has reportedly jumped through a loophole in the transtasman travel bubble to return to a job in Moscow and his girlfriend.

Tim Byrnes flew to Auckland last week and caught a flight to Istanbul on Friday night to travel on to Russia, the Sydney Morning Herald has reported.

"I've escaped. I get to go back to my life," said Byrnes, who said he had encountered several other people in Auckland who were watching his progress and hoped to do the same.

14 months of dog-legging to Au via NZ. Not sure how they didn't see it coming

A threat of fines is only as good as a follow through

Call me naive, or possibly even dumb, but for people like Tim who have no intent to return, I'm not really seeing any issue?

Those that do return, are still going to have to quarantine inNZ upon arrival, are they not?

All bubbles burst - not so many balloons do however.

Hardly nothing seems to be learnt even with hindsight!
