tdgeek:Emergency Cabinet meeting underway.
Hard to assume anything else than an alert level change for Welly
floydbloke:
Couldn't agree more. And it's about time this wishy-washy, hugs-and-smiles, government grew a pair and started educating and informing the public that Covid is here to stay and will likely cause tens or hundreds of deaths each year. Just like a multitude of other causes, some infectious diseases, that we have to live with.
"And it's about time this wishy-washy, hugs-and-smiles, government grew a pair" I agree but enough with the "educating and informing the public" this seems to be the thing these days.
Since the late 80's NZ & Aust societies are more about the carrot than the stick. eg. Traffic fines are minimal and minor breaches (phone use, red light runners etc) are not even policed, border breach fines (food, cig's etc) pathetic, COVID breach punishments-well non existence really. It all seems to be lets educate - you know - "a nice talking to".
It is NOT working. We need to teach "taking responsibility for ones own actions". You know the rules and society norms. It is all well and good talking about "Team NZ" or "The Team of 5 Million" but what people forget is that there is no 'I' in Team.
If you don't have a phone to QR scan that is your chosen right and yes there should be paper logs available, I though it was MoH regulations and if it is they should be reported. But I know, personally, that scanning is more convenient for me, gripes sometimes I am only in Bakers Delight a couple of minutes, it would take me that long to fill out the log, so my day is more efficient with phone scanning.
It is an earned 'right' to drive. It is a privilege to enter this county not a 'right'. Take their privileges away and hit them in the pocket (for all age groups).
It is your personal DUTY to help protect your family, loved ones, friends and fellow homo-sapiens otherwise the cockroaches will win.
Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

...
I don't have a phone, I can't scan, most places have stopped putting out sign-in sheets.
Can you explain why not?
I've never had a mobile phone either and in all likelihood will never have a mobile phone. I am at home 99% of the time and there is no mobile reception where I live so why would I bother.
On the rare occasions I frequent places where there are other people I never see sign in sheets
Fred99:Dingbatt: Visits a chemist the morning after arrival. Any chance it was to get some cold and flu medicine?
Delta variant:
"Headaches, sore throat, and a runny nose are the most common symptoms"
IIRC Bloomfield was on National Radio this morning talking about "loss of smell / taste" being indicative of C19. While it probably still is, the symptoms of the Delta variant do seem to different, and far more likely to be dismissed as a cold - and at the time when the person is probably most infectious.
13 new cases in Sydney overnight.
I'm a little surprised about the simultaneous timing of the NZ, NSW and Vic update announcements (11:00am AEST = 1:00pm NZT), though I expect information is shared beforehand.
Edit:
As well as the new cases in Sydney. they've found C-19 fragments in sewage in at least one area (Brooklyn) well away from where there have been any known active cases. (also detected in sewage closer to the epicentre)

No, it appears to be totally coincidental..... also the OZ state pressers are notorious for being scheduled at similar times,
A comment on the mobile app. I caught up with my great uncle last week and he mentioned that his phone is not compatible with the NZ covid scanner app. His phone is an android around 11 years old and he is happy with it and hasn't upgraded (as probably is the case with other older people). Why have limitations on the app of not working with older devices? I understand you have to develop using older libraries etc. but is it worth it to ensure as much of the population can use it as possible?
