New  case numbers in Sydney now revised upward to 16.  4 new CT cases "unlinked to Bondi cluster" (whatever that means - ie unconnected by contact tracing or by genome testing???)

Edit:  The 16 new cases were actually 13 new confirmed overnight, plus 3 found yesterday but not recorded in yesterday's figures.

Lockdown restrictions:

NSW Health said the new restrictions would come into effect at 4:00pm today would be in place for one week.

  • Visitors to households will be limited to 5 guests — including children
  • Masks will be compulsory in all indoor non-residential settings, including workplaces, and at organised outdoor events
  • Drinking while standing at indoor venues will not be allowed
  • Singing by audiences at indoor shows or by congregants at indoor places of worship will not be allowed
  • Dancing will not be allowed at indoor hospitality venues or nightclubs however, dancing is allowed at weddings for the bridal party only (no more than 20 people)
  • Dance and gym classes limited to 20 per class (masks must be worn)
  • The one person per four square metre rule will be re-introduced for all indoor and outdoor settings, including weddings and funerals
  • Outdoor seated events will be limited to 50 per cent seated capacity
  • Previous public transport capacity limits, represented by green dots, will be reintroduced
  • If you live or work in the City of Sydney, Waverley, Randwick, Canada Bay, Inner West, Bayside, and Woollahra local government areas, you cannot travel outside metropolitan Sydney for non-essential travel.

One asymptomatic case passed the infection on to 10 (so far) out of 30 attending a birthday party.

That's measles level R0.

Interestingly I am scheduled to have my second C19 jab tomorrow within the Wellington region.

Since it took me 2 hours of my life on the phone just to make that appointment I am certainly not wasting another 2 trying to find out what the requirements are. I will just take a mask and go as I would have done.

So the odds of someone from Auckland who was in one of those places and has since returned is probably pretty high. This is pretty concerning. In Auckland at least, I've been the only person who has signed into the supermarket every time I've gone.

Occasionally I do forget as I enter a place, though I am usually pretty good. I sometimes scan at the checkout or if I see a QR code and forgot earlier.

Me too - and that's probably pretty much the norm for few people who make the effort try to comply.  It seems to me that QR code displays are smaller and less prominent than they used to be - at the local supermarket I used to be able to hold my phone up pointed towards A4 width signs from a few metres away, wouldn't have to slow down.  Now they're smaller, stuck behind reflective glass, and not right at the entrance.  Hand cleaning stations have also all but disappeared.

Faded signs, signs that aren't set up properly often mean I am spending about 3 x as long to get a scan. I did end up raising the issue with a cafe I go to a few times a fortnight and it's still not fixed. I regularly scan ours to ensure it's instantly readable.

I feel for Wellington, but as an Aucklander (makes me shudder a bit saying that) who has been through multiple lockdowns, I am a bit relieved, given the number of events we are attending like sports tournaments and kids camps, that Auckland isn't going into lockdown.... Yet.

It's also nice knowing we aren't going to be treated as filthy leppers.

A comment on the mobile app. I caught up with my great uncle last week and he mentioned that his phone is not compatible with the NZ covid scanner app. His phone is an android around 11 years old and he is happy with it and hasn't upgraded (as probably is the case with other older people). Why have limitations on the app of not working with older devices? I understand you have to develop using older libraries etc. but is it worth it to ensure as much of the population can use it as possible?

The COVID Tracer app has its own thread: NZ COVID Tracer app for Android and iOS (geekzone.co.nz)

I just can't understand why they are delaying closing the border to NSW. It looks clear there is a new outbreak and we can't trust everyone to do the right thing. At least be cautious, NZs luck is surely going to end at some point.

The NZ authorities seem quite keen to tie out response with the local response. If a city / state is going into lock-down then we will close the bubble.

Sadly this approach results in inconsistency in risk NZ carries between states. WA (Perth) seems pritty trigger happy on lockdowns, so we saw a few bubble pauses. NSW seems the opposite so we see open travel, despite the risk profile not being that way around.

I am just so annoyed, as this could have been totally avoided if they had closed the borders earlier. It was like playing Russian Roulette. It was so obvious that border should have been closed last week and they had CT going on in NSW. Now we may have CT in NZ and the level has increased in the lower North Island and the cost to some businesses is going to be huge.

I didn't see any scanning yesterday and they know that this so if we get local cases it is going to make it more difficult for them.

But can people travel from NSW to other states and then still get to NZ. Are there any loopholes? If we get some local cases I can see us going to level 3

I'll be the first to critisise people who don't use the tracer app because they can't be bothered, but it's important to remember that not everyone has the skills required to use the technology.

I don't buy this. If someone can operate a car, then they can operate a mobile phone well enough to open an app and scan it.

"Up to 2500 people visited Te Papa around the time a Covid-infected Sydney tourist attended, the museum has revealed.

Te Papa is a location of interest after the traveller attended the Surrealist Art exhibition between 4pm and 5.45pm on Saturday June 19."

What a contact tracing nightmare!

I see a lot of elderly using ipads. 80s and 90s. So if they can operate an ipad, they can operate the covid app. Although I have noticed the the covid app has gotten more complex than it needs to be

Deep cleaning one of NZs largest buildings is going to be a nightmare. Huge costs too
