I couldn't. I could after someone showed me how, but I would probably have trouble working it out from scratch. The couple of times I was given a phone to do something on, I couldn't even turn the thing on. Everything is easy after you know how. It is a black box until you do.

The new version of the app is not as user friendly as it was. They kept adding to it so the design was fudged

Many seniors don't bother with a mobile phone as it simply does not suit their lifestyle. My late father in law did not own a mobile as he did not want the intrusion when he was out and about and had a good VOIP phone at home, didn't want to be concerned about keeping the thing charged. He also

said that he was retired and nothing was that urgent anymore, he even stopped wearing his watch when he retired as he didn't care about time. Now he certainly new technology and worked as a Senior programmer/engineer for a long time. Up until he passed his memory was spot on and could tell you where he had been and at what time

going back weeks. He had an incredible ability to remember long strings of numbers like car registrations that he walked past. He was cool and I miss him. So never assume that seniors are not using tech because they can't.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Batman: We've given 1 million doses of Pfizer vaccine

And we will plod along with ~1,120,000 next week and ~1,250,000 in the following week.

The number of doses being given currently is totally constrained until mid July.. when we will see a slightly bigger increase... but even then...

2 million doses by end of July still only gets us having around 1.2 million with one dose and 800K with 2...

That's 15% of the population with full protection and another 10% with some....

Still pretty crappy numbers....

The fact is that he can't start vaccinating the bulk of the population until we get the bulk of the vaccine. I just wish they would come out and state that, because currently it is all about just using what they got. If they vaccinated too many people, then the headlines will be that they have run out, which is a negative headline.. I guess it is good that they think they are doing a good job?

Whitby has closed. 8 of their staff was at Te Papa and so was the senior school ball on Saturday the same time frame as the NSW contact. School will reopen on Monday following negative tests.

They have basically stated that haven't they.

They have said to the DHB to pace themselves.
They have said what the stocks are and what is coming in roughly when.

The media like a good story so are asking the same things again and again.

For some reason the media seem to want us think the magic vaccine fairies will be able to change things if they report the same things again.
This makes people worry (rightly or wrongly).

Overall yes I agree they are trying to counter the (expected) low vaccination numbers with some positive spin by stating what they have done to date.
But they are not hiding anything and everyone knows where we are at.

The thing is not everyone knows, just like not everyone knows who the leader of the opposition is. Many people don't watch the news or knows what is going on with covid, but they will hear the odd headline, such as NZ runs out of Covid vaccines etc. So that is what sticks and gets the headlines in NZ. I recall we ran out of or very low on normal flu vaccinations last year, despite them ordering more than they have previously ordered, and that became a big story, yet in the grand scheme of things it was unimportant. My point was more to stop the 'spin' and just state the facts, maybe using graphs when they do their standups. This graph below shows that there could be a pinch point coming up with stock received, and actual vaccinations. It would be good if the graph showed when the anticipated stocks are coming online over the next 6 months, like has been done with stock received.. Also looks like they are modeling 80% of the population to be vaccinated, unless they expect many will only have had one does at the end of the year?.

Well, if that's the case, it would like anything else that you didn't know how to do, you'd get someone to show you how, or you would use some other learning resource. Presumably, you didn't come onto the earth knowing how to operate a motor vehicle, someone had to teach you, or you had to learn in some manner. It's no different for anything or anyone else.

Choosing not to have a phone, it's a choice, but the world has changed, you expect others to modify their behaviour, learn new skills, such as reduce the impact they have on the planet etc, it's reasonable given the life-threatening nature of the pandemic we are in, that some expectations fall on people to do what is needful to both protect yourself and others.

I am not necessarily speaking of you, but the 'you' of a general sense.

I see elderly people scanning all the time.

On a side note, good on you for having a diary to cover the instances where you might not otherwise be able to meet your obligations. At the end of the day, we need people to be able to accurately show their whereabouts in specific circumstances, I don't care much how they do it, your way works well.

@networkn Rikkitic lives in a rural area with a lot of hills in an area that has crap cellular coverage. I can understand why Rikkitic has not purchased a cellphone and pays a monthly costs for a diary. They paper version used and signing into businesses that care enough is sufficient and ok in the MOH guidlines.

Vaccination available from mid-next week at our local medical centre (Hibiscus Coast, Auckland). Much closer and more convenient than the nearest community vaccine centre, which is ~37km away. Wife & I just booked for next Wed via the Health365 website. Very simple booking process.

So you have more details on this? Mother Neb was told there would be one set up in Albany at some point, but HBC would be even better.

@neb: In case you have not heard, according to their website Silverdale Medical Centre "will start to administer the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine in June to registered patients of the practice by invitation only. It will initially be a very controlled rollout, starting with the highest at risk of the registered patient population". Getting close to end of June, if they have not started already.

Seem to be taking a fairly officious line though "Please do not call or attend the clinic to book your vaccine. Eligible patients will be invited by our staff when it is their turn."

And only aiming for all aged 65+ and high-risk registered patients to be offered at least one vaccine "by September" (whatever that means). Not certain about younger patients.

Very different at Orewa Medical Centre. Registered patients can book online (through H365 - choose your own timing), and from experience are making at least some bookings via phone and in person. Some unbooked patients are also being sent through for vaccination after normal doctor consultations (presumably higher risk patients who the doctors convinced to get vaccinate then and there). On Tue when I had mine, they had ~60 booked for the day but expected to do ~80 after follow throughs from the doctors)

Aiming to start vaccination other patients 'soon', once they have completed the bulk of their own patients.
