Pretty poor article.

The Hataitai testing site was stood up and went live at 4pm and was open late until (from memory) 9pm. Taranaki St is not the only testing centre.

Is almost like the last sentence of the story that contradicts much of the whole article was a late edit.

Lol at that one.

There are clearly many fairly large packs on the right hand side of the image, and there are packs viable on the top of the shelved too.

Supermarket rush.

I was wondering in the Auckland supermarket rush on basics was supercharged by those with a batch or dacha out of the city.
Stocking up for the midnight run.

As the small beachside communities would lack for everyday needs of a sudden unexpected rush.

Oi whats wrong with the Kiwi Soft, posh bum or what.

I’m curious why there are vaccines available yet some vaccine centres are fully unbooked with over 75s within the DHB area not being sent appointments.

I’ll be irritated if we all end up in lockdown just so 130,000 or so could go to Australia.

I think you mean come from Australia. The bubble works well for Australia, the Kiwi risk is very very minimal. But we take on the Australia outbreak heaven risk which started days after April 19 bubble date and hasn't stopped

Had to convince in-laws to call the medical centre and make a fuss - they were told to wait for an invite that never came. They managed to book themselves in.

Possibly. Whichever. I’ll still be irritated! We were exceedingly fortunate to avoid a significant outbreak and I remain entirely unconvinced as to the wisdom of quarantine free travel to anywhere just now.

The mRNA vaccines can be updated very quickly, I think the sequencing for the Pfizer vaccine only took 3 days, the tricky part was getting the nano-encapsulation working and stable, then tested.  So the RNA sequencing can be changed, and they "know" the delivery system works, so development of an "updated" vaccine can be quick, but some trials for safety and efficacy testing will probably still be needed.

I think Delta variant is already 90% of new cases in the UK. That happened very quickly - an indication of how much more easily it spreads. But 2x Pfizer vaccine doses is still very protective, surely they'll have new vaccines or "boosters" in development, "Delta" is just one of many variants, with millions of people actively infected in communities with only partial vaccination, worse variants are inevitably on the way.

This study shows very similar performance of ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 and BNT162b2 vaccines in reducing transmission to unvaccinated household contacts from index cases that had one dose of vaccine 21 days or more before testing positive

https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMc2107717. NEJM Letter

Edit to clarify:

ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 = Oxford-AstraZenica vaccine

BNT162b2 = Pfizer-BoiNTech vaccine
