Leave it to a Govt department though to put it in the too hard basket

Speaking of which, there have been a number of alcohol abuse ads on TV recently, with a link for more information. The link even has 'alcohol' in the name, but if you click on it you end up at a quit line for drug addicts. No information on anything, just the assumption that you are a junkie and an understanding voice is waiting to talk to you about it. Just out of curiosity, I carefully searched the entire site and there is nothing on it anywhere about alcohol abuse at all, and no link to anyplace else. It is entirely and exclusively about drug abuse, with the strong implication that anyone checking out the site must already be a drug abuser. I would think that anyone who did actually have a drug problem would be put off by the tone of the site, if nothing else. In any case, it has absolutely nothing to do with alcohol abuse.

Alcohol abuse is drug abuse. Alcoholics are drug addicts. The only difference is that alcohol abuse is legal.

I reckon subcontract MIQ admissions/departures to Wilsons Parking, the gold standard in billing and payment collection.

I am well aware of that but the site linked to specifically deals with meth and opiates and other non-alcoholic drugs. There is nothing specifically about alcohol at all, and alcohol requires its own specific treatments. There are good sites in New Zealand that deal with this. The one the ad pushes is not one of these. I am a little perplexed by that. Why run a campaign for flood protection and then send people to a site deal with drought problems?

UK are looking to start booster shots in September.

https://www.forres-gazette.co.uk/news/national/uk-urged-to-share-covid-vaccines-with-the-world-at-same-time-as-booster-rollout-24339/

The link  is to the local paper in the town I used to live but the article appears syndicated and well worth a read.

I don't see how we can compare ourselves to other countries or be called rubbish if we have actually vaccinated literally almost every vaccine we have been supplied. We could not have doubled what we have done as there is not the vaccines supplied per month to do that. If our stocks were building up as we aren't jabbing enough that would be an issue but there aren't the jabs available. The only argument is that we decided to use Pfizer and not a mix of others. Given that generally Covid is not here, we have decided to use the best vaccine. Will the entire world open up by Christmas? Maybe it will, but by then we will be there as well, vaccine wise.

It's pretty simple.

If you are last in vaccinations you haven't done a good job. The rest is just excuses.

Or give it to the people who ring to say you have a problem with the internet, they would be quite happy to ring everyone in NZ to find the people for you.

BS more like. Im sure most other countries would be happy to have their vaccination supplies reduced to satisfy Covid ravaged NZ

Other countries feelings are a reason for a slow vaccine roll out. Interestingly I haven't seen that on any official communication.

It’s very easy to assert ‘you haven’t done a good job’. If you can do better, how? Why aren’t you advising the government on what to do?

The rationale is: go for the best vaccine so we can get the best outcome. Supplies aren’t immediately available just for NZ and we don’t have the infrastructure to vaccinate everyone on day 1, so build capability. Focus on highest needs segments first. We have border isolation to hold cases down while we progress to an optimal outcome.

What aspects of those components of the strategy are faulty?

I didn’t realise the objective was to be at the top of the tables … I thought we were aiming for a realistically optimal health outcome here.
