But elderly were only part of group 2 in the Counties Manukau DHB area - everywhere else elderly are part of group 3 which won't be complete until around September.  Group 3 is only going to start ramping up now and GP surgeries are going to be involved as part of that.

Elsewhere elderly were only part of group 2 if they were in a rest home, and in that situation the vaccinators visit the rest home. I know people in such environments who have only had jabs in the last week or so.

What's your point? She's had it, but to get it at this point, it involved as huge trek across Auckland at this point. OK if you've got the family support to get you there, not if you don't.

GPs being involved in a wider-scale roll-out may have helped avoided that? That's all I'm saying. Will probably be different now we have a decent haul of vaccines to dish out.

My point was that she was obviously lucky to get in early - but the downside of group 2 was that it was only at vaccination centres and very few GP clinics because it was not a rollout for the general pubic. There were specific requirements (such as the consent process) for many in group 1 and group 2 which differs from the general public rollout, hence the reason these were kept seperate.

With the group 3 general public and 65+ rollout medical centres came online, and there are two GP vaccination centres in that area doing vaccinations (Orewa and Silverdale) for whether they're patients or not so there is no need to travel.

That makes far more sense. Must have just been an option to get it early they could make it then.

Gee Sydney is in for another 6-7 weeks of level 4 based on data models..

"Sydney's lockdown will need to last until September to suppress case numbers, new modelling shows.

The model was developed by the Populations Intervention Unit at the University of Melbourne, and bases the lockdown ending when the median number of new daily COVID-19 cases falls below five.

It shows that, on the current Stage 4 Sydney lockdown settings, that threshold would be reached on September 4. The model was run 10,000 times to take uncertainties into account.

It showed the target could be met as early as August 26, or as late as September 16."

Yes, but "The new infections are all linked to known outbreaks, which now stand at 107 active cases."

So with a strong lockdown limiting movement, the chance to get ahead of the spread and isolate contacts is still there

Although there was no comment on whether they had been identified through contract testing or whether they were walk-ups that were subsequently linked back to a case...

Its not looking great, they appear to have stop case growth, but there is no sign of it peaking....

My guess is NSW is likely to be in some form of lockdown until September

Gladys Berejiklian stating that the impact of harsher lockdowns imposed won't be seen until later this week.

(Seems plausible - if optimistic).

Big pressure from journo's at press conference to try and get her to slip up by asking repeated questions about when "freedom day" can come / lockdown can end.

She's wisely deflecting those questions.

Having those infectious in the community numbers over 25 for weeks on end shows me the lockdown is not being taken seriously. #stayhomesavelives was the catch cry in NZ, seems like in Sydney people are out exercising, shopping etc with no thought.

Mid to late september would be my guess, but things will get worse before they get better.

I wonder if the .health.nz site is just going to get a domain redirect and the 'register' function actually enabled to do what it is meant to..

Wet markets in Singapore are totally different to what we saw in Wuhan,

Live Mammal and Bird slaughter has been banned since 1992, and last year they ended turtles... which was pretty much the last live species left..
