JPNZ:

I'm starting to worry that Sydney won't get on top of this latest outbreak..

"NSW has recorded a record 124 new COVID-19 cases, the highest daily number associated with the state’s worsening Delta outbreak.

Of the new cases, at least 48 have been active in the community while infectious. About 85,185 tests were completed yesterday.

“There’s no doubt that we anticipate case numbers will continue to go up before they start coming down and we need to brace ourselves for that,” Premier Gladys Berejiklian."

Just Sydney/NSW?

The repercussions are it will go into all of AU

Yea I'm feeling a lot less comfortable with the bubble.

The longer NSW kind-of locks down, the more likely it will kind-of end up in other states in greater numbers.

124 new cases in Sydney today

48 infectious in the community.

It's not going down Gladys.  NSW is in very deep trouble, they've got few options, realistically only one.

Lock down very hard.

Stay with present ineffective lockdown until the end of the year, killing the economy anyway and further increasing the risk of spread to other states and NZ.

Let it rip - and lose thousands of lives while destroying the economy.

NSW is a real worry, and if the impacts of the stepped up lockdown don't start to show soon, they will have to start looking at other approaches, slowing the pfizer rollout in other states and pouring doses into NSW might be the next cab off the rank...

VIC hit a new high of 26, but all but two were already isolated in quarantine, this is very good news and bodes well for getting ahead of it in this state

Cabinet meeting happening now (during a recess) to discuss closing the bubble completely.

Makes sense IMO.

Come home now (if you can).

Yes, I'm afraid that the only thing that will retrieve the situation is a real hard lockdown - equivalent to NZ Level 4 - for at least three weeks, probably four or five.

A huge vaccination drive would also help, but they don't have vaccines they want to use
They have lots of AZ vaccine, but don't want to use it, and the hyped-up publicity has made a lot of the population vaccine hesitant

DS248:

The (slightly) amusing thing about the above chart (Scott3 post) is that it clearly suggests vaccination of Group 3 was to start at the beginning of May.  It was later argued that 'start in May' was not intended to mean at the beginning of May - more towards the end. Yeah!

Read a potentially inflammatory article to some GZers but to others might be worth reading. I'm not sure if true or not, but it's from the herald.

They have been in a similar L4 lockdown for 5 days yet the "infectious in the community" were the highest they have been since this harder lockdown started.

The police need to be questioning and issuing fines on the street etc, people don't seem to get the message.

Stop the bubble now

"We haven't got the GPs and pharmacists on board yet. That's the reason Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins gave for why we can't start rolling out 50,000 doses a day.

The impact of a huge vaccination drive won't be much immediate help.

Pfizer and AZ first shot only offer ~ 30% protection against Delta, then maximum immunity isn't reached immediately after the second shot.

We must keep Delta out.
