They have lots of AZ vaccine, but don't want to use it, and the hyped-up publicity has made a lot of the population vaccine hesitant

What the....!

Hyped up publicity or not, if you were under 50 and particularly female and had the choice, you'd be crazy to not go for Pfizer.

Apart from some sly changes of what can be reasonably inferred to mean something is happening 'in July' over the last month or two, but they did indicate that July is when the big shipments would start showing up.

Now the race is on to get them into people before Delta gets here. Which it will.

100%. I have a couple of outdoor projects to do, no rush. But I picked up the timber yesterday, as Delta will hit here at any time.  Surprised it isnt already given that MIQ can never be secure and the bubbles. Then it will be instant Level 4

Anybody not prepared for a lockdown now should be. That includes having preferably N95 masks if you're not already vaccinated.

One of the concerning things in Australia now is CT that is probably occuring at essential places like supermarkets, and while "face coverings" are essential the reality is wearing a home made face covering offers pretty much zero protectation against droplet spread unlike something like a N95 mask which will protect you from inhaling droplets.

124 new cases in Sydney today

48 infectious in the community.

It's not going down Gladys.  NSW is in very deep trouble, they've got few options, realistically only one.

Lock down very hard.

Stay with present ineffective lockdown until the end of the year, killing the economy anyway and further increasing the risk of spread to other states and NZ.

Let it rip - and lose thousands of lives while destroying the economy

Yes, I'm afraid that the only thing that will retrieve the situation is a real hard lockdown - equivalent to NZ Level 4 - for at least three weeks, probably four or five.

A huge vaccination drive would also help, but they don't have vaccines they want to use

The NSW lockdown is basically at our L4 now. They've had a lot of additional restrictions in the last week.

Watching the press conference before they're rolling out AZ to any pharmacy that wants to give it from Monday. The govt wants people to take it, but we know the problem is people don't want it due to the massive own goal by their media.

The impact of a huge vaccination drive won't be much immediate help.

Pfizer and AZ first shot only offer ~ 30% protection against Delta, then maximum immunity isn't reached immediately after the second shot.

We must keep Delta out.

At least new data is showing overall real world effectiveness remains pretty good against delta Two doses of Pfizer, AstraZeneca shots effective against Delta variant: study | Reuters

National’s Covid-19 spokesman Chris Bishop said National did not have access to the same information the Government did, but generally agreed with the current number of pauses.

He said both National and the Government had not anticipated the amount of disruption the bubble would eventually come under when it had was launched.

"That's the nature of Covid and the nature in particular of the Delta variant.”

Good to have consensus right now. Need to double down in MIQ as these people leave AUS and return here

"We haven't got the GPs and pharmacists on board yet. That's the reason Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins gave for why we can't start rolling out 50,000 doses a day.

So I take it that while the government knew when the vaccine was going to be available there was no co-ordination to ensure there were people ready to administer the vaccine? Why do we keep shooting ourselves in the foot?

NSW restriction rules here:

https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/rules/greater-sydney#places-that-are-closed

Businesses providing essential products and services that can be open include

  • supermarkets
  • grocery stores including

    • butchers, bakeries, fruit and vegetable, seafood
    • other food or drink retailers that predominantly sell or display food or drinks
  • kiosks and other small food and drink premises
  • petrol stations
  • banks and financial institutions
  • hardware, building supplies
  • landscaping material supplies
  • agricultural and rural supplies
  • shops that, in the normal course of business, operate as or sell and display

    • pet supplies
    • newsagents
    • office supplies
    • chemists providing health, medical, maternity and baby supplies or
    • liquor stores
  • post offices
  • garden centres and plant nurseries
  • vehicle hire premises, not including the premises at which vehicles are sold;
  • shops that predominantly carry out repairs of mobile phones
  • laundromats and drycleaners.

Also
It is also considered a reasonable excuse to leave your home if you need to ...
move ... between your different places of residence

IIRC, the places in bold above were not allowed open in NZ under Level 4.
And it's OK to (in NZ terms) drive from your home in Remuera to your bach in Turangi and back again

This is L3.5 I reckon

Edit: travel restrictions

So I keep hearing. Struggling at the moment to find any proof that we actually are the best. Lucky, you bet we are.
