It appears to be fake news. Somebody at NZME seems to have misinterpreted the the message on the Air NZ IVR that's been playing for days.

I'll be very surprised if they suspend the whole bubble and remaining bubble flights to TAS and WA but they're probably keeping a pretty close eye on QLD

They were going to be making an announcement this afternoon about the discussions held yesterday afternoon.

According to one comment on TV last night, the delay is to give the Wallabies time to grab their bags and hop on a plane so that the Bledisloe Cup Rugby Tests can go ahead.

That's just silly enough to possibly be true

I guess that as well as the added risk from the greater amount of P2P contact there's an impact on behaviour from just seeing more stuff open and more happening.

Thinking back to our L4, it was definitely "interesting times" and how inconvenient the impact depended on circumstances, but IMO we had pretty good compliance with stricter rules.

I still think that we should be at level 2 now - not 1. It means that superspreader events would be more limited and CT easier to link. All very nice to be able to sequence cases - but it's an added ~24 hours after a case is found. Plus yesterday where I was scanning in to places I visited, as usual the hordes of people who clearly don't give a f%$ steamrollered their way past.

So with no cases in the country you want to give hospitality, the live music scene , sporting events etc a massive economic hit?

Agreed - we will know pretty quickly when it does get here from wastewater testing which we didn't have before for large-scale outbreaks. I don't see the point in putting the cart before the horse just yet, but when it does happen, it will happen at extremely short notice. People should be prepared for that by now.
