I have never been able to get my head around them, they gross me out :)

It's not a drinking fountain

A friend in Japan years ago staggered home stupidly drunk, had a messy puke in the toilet, and while flailing around to get up, hit the button to turn the bidet on, only to get a high-pressure jet of water in his face. We've never let him live that down.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

At least maintaining a fastidious use of the COVID App means I don’t have to try and reconstruct everywhere I’ve been in the last 2 weeks.

Good.

You, me, many of the people I know, probably most of the posters in this thread, but about 4-5 million others who apparently don't give a f&^%.

You wouldn't be talking about the team of 5 million by any chance? A real team effort in scanning, Yeah Right!!!!!!!!

Plenty of people overseas have recovered well form Delta with or without the vaccine. I'm not sold on locking down. Protect our business!

Plenty of people have died.

Get lost - I don't appreciate your misanthropic death-wish here.

New account / first post - sheesh.  Covidiots.

Missed the point about the account being brand new and only aimed to come in here.

I imagine that this could be 1 or 2 things.

Someone who's been here before and was previously banned.

Or a covid denier wanting to spam and cause a problem.

I don't think there's censorship, only people being shown the door.

The account was banned as it is the same one who posted a YouTube anti-vaxxer video yesterday.

Yeah, I think with Delta the days of regional lockdowns are over..

They will go hard and fast for the whole country and hope everyone with e runny nose goes and gets a test....

Lockdowns will continue in regions where cases are detected... until they are not

There's a big difference between airline passengers and train/bus passengers, in that many city dwellers *need* to travel by public transport as part of everyday life. Whilst not being able to use an airliner would be a major inconvenience for some (especially in a country the size of Canada), there are alternatives. Mandating vaccinations for public transport users is effectively mandating injections for *everyone* in a large city. And probably for most children in the countryside (think school buses).

Whilst I'm 100% in favour of everyone getting vaccinated, I think that forcing them to raises ethical issues, and therefore political issues for the government. But it may be a nettle that they have to grasp.

It works for drivers licences, firearms licences, seat belts, as well as the other myriad of laws we have to obey. No, that's not "everyone" but science and common sense should take a front seat here. They may not be forced to vaccinate, so they retain that human right, but of the many safety measures transport has, vaccination for users is another measure. Drunks can be denied access to Planes, Trains and Automobiles (taxi) so I don't see an issue with morality or human rights

The difference is that you don't have to have a needle stuck into you to get a drivers license. Compelling someone to have medical treatment is normally done on a case by case basis, via court orders, and usually in the context of mental health where the patient can't make the right decision. It's a big step for the state to force someone of sound mind to do anything, let alone the entire population. And there's a tiny but non-zero risk of death or disability.

And, as I said, in many cities there is *no* option but to use public transport. Many people don't own cars. So mandating vaccinations for public transport users is effectively mandating injections for *everyone* in a large city.

Again, I'm not anti-vax. I've had both my jabs. I think it's a good idea for everyone to get vaccinated, especially if they're in close proximity to others. I'm just pointing out that there's a substantial erosion of human rights at stake.

With this particular issue, I couldn't give two hoots about human rights. Lives are far more important here, the big picture needs to be recognised and respected by everyone. People can either get with the program or get left behind.

Mulling over things, by the time of the press conference tonight, we'll hopefully know:

The person's movements.

Symptoms and estimate of how long they'd been infectious in the community.

Immediate contacts who can be quarantined.

Immediate sites of concern to be notified.

Where they'd been likely to get infected, but sequencing probably won't be complete, so there may be no certainty about that.

100% of cases picked up at the border in recent weeks have been delta, so it's a fairly sure bet this case will be.

No wastewater testing has revealed traces - at least in areas monitored, so it's probably not a tip of an iceberg of undetected CT case.

Fingers crossed a short lockdown announced and commenced immediately may do the trick.  Rather that than announce a longer lockdown initially, which I guess may incentivise people to travel - home, to the bach, whatever.
