Ate Humble Pie for Dessert tonight. Press Conference gave more detail than I expected, and the Reporters were on good behaviour by their standards.
(Just as well I like Humble Pie)
drive through vaccination being "explored" in the next 48 hrs
The goldilocks of lockdowns, not too hard, not too early, not too soft or late. Just right.
tdgeek:MikeB4:@frankv I don't believe that vaccination should be compulsory, however, if someone chooses not to vaccinate then society can and should elect to place restrictions on them. Freedom comes with responsibilities.
Yes, that was my point. I never mentioned compulsory vaccinations.

My point was that in some places, particularly large cities, mandating vaccination to use public transport is effectively compulsory vaccination.
There's become a significant hardening in attitudes with colleagues I talk to in Europe. Tolerance for those who choose not to be vaccinated has moved towards they have the freedom to not be vaccinated but they will no longer be able to infringe on the freedom of others.
Europeans won't tolerate another year like they have had - if making life harder/impossible for those who don't vaccinate is necessary they will do it.
Ramblings from a mysterious lady who's into tech. Warning I may often create zingers.
You'd think by now people would realise toilet paper isn't some scarce resource that needs to be panic bought everytime there's a lockdown..

Yep, I get that. Large cities and Covid Delta and public transport, thats quite a recipe.
Mr Handle made good points.
Delta does mean illness etc for vaccinated people, not as bad (usually), but no guarantees. And a vaccine is not 100% effective. It spreads easily. If 1/4 of the population are not vaccinated the virus is kept alive, and affects the ones that didn't reach the effectiveness of the vaccine they have had. As well as the kids and young teens. I hear what you say and I get it, but its not asking for a pound of flesh so they can catch a bus.
Delta changes everything. Most of todays almost 500 NSW cases are under 40
MaxineN: So attempting to do the usual Wednesday shop and I fear we might have left things too late. Am seeing a fair amount of masked up people (including me and the fiancée) but I’m seeing a lot of trolleys full of toilet paper and even a trolley just full of rice.
Jesus people please… don’t panic buy.
Family member driving to Dunedin tomorrow to live. Internet got cut off earlier, sposed to be midnight. Power will disconnect tomorrow sometime. The moving truck wont be there tomorrow now. No food as she ran that down, so went to the supey. You know the rest of the story! ChCh.

Could this be covered as an exemption/48 hours to get home?
HelloThere:
I can't believe how busy the liquor shops were. Even busier than the supermarket.
It's rational for them to be more busy than the supermarkets. Outside of trusts regions, they aren't allowed to trade in level 4.
So if you like booze other than beer & wine, it is your last chance to get it for what could potentially be 4+ weeks. Not healthy, but I assume there is a chunk of the population that views a level 4 lock-down as an opportunity to drink a lot of alcohol...
Personally I would have expected a rush on:
The rush on supermarkets seems quite irrational. It's one of the few retailers that will be open tomorrow and so on. Of course there will be some people that normally eat out or have takeaways for most meals, have just canceled or returned from holiday, that would not have had have much food on hand that will suddenly need it. (i.e. people who were planning a cafe brunch tomorrow, that now will need food for breakfast / brunch at home).
I suspect a lot of the supermarket rush is people jumping on the bandwagon. Media seems to love reporting on it, and people see others panic buying and decide to they need to get in on it too so they don't get caught short be being too slow.
I was surprised that all of New Zealand went into Level 4; but it might be needed.
My negative side says this will become a 2 week Level 4 across the country and longer in the North Island.
Can't seem to find what is deemed an essential business this time around; I am gathering some places may have forgotten in the last 15 months down here in the South..
I still have my letter from last year telling people I am essential, so normal time for what might be a very very long day

I don't see why not. I don't think her stuff will get delivered though.

You might want to check if it's still valid. Staff at my workplace are being told that they need to get theirs re-issued.
I wonder how many morons here in Christchurch will put their rubbish in the recycling bin, just because the CCC said it was OK the last Level4.
Yet realised (Obviously really!) afterward "What a stupid decision it was!" and said NOT AGAIN!
