Its official. You may spread your legs during lockdown according MP Chris Hipkins

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

so far i have got the numbers of new cases correct except for today where i thought they would be around 40 or so, 21 is good news as it seems lockdown is working

I feel so. Cases pre lockdown would expand heavily, but at lockdown that stops. yes, I was expecting a lot more than the last two days, but an early lockdown does work. Suffocation. NSW had a late lockdown and it was lite, and they are paying. In a perfect world, 14 days and its history. But its not perfect so a bit more time.

What is odd is in some of the states where they have had Delta, they have only had very small numbers, but maybe they are using social distancing more as part of normal life. NZ wasn't, it was party central based on some of the videos of venues where there have been cases. But if NZ has indeed had cases since the 7th, then I would have thought there would have been quite a few people who had cold symptoms who hadn't bothered to get tested.  I think about 50% of people don't show symptoms. I don't think the government plugged the message enough, that if you have cold symptoms, get tested for Covid. There are a lot of negative stories questioning whether it is now possible to eliminate Delta, and how no other pace as managed to eliminate it. When it is obviously possible.

I have decided that he is having a significantly different lock-down experience than I!

There was a snippit from the stand-up and Dr B soon after on the reasoning/recommendations

Would have to dig it out. But one news touched on it

But the hospo industry isn't impressed either. Citing young staff who will be abused and face danger attempting to self police

If only people realised denial of a service is a thing. Not a right to get it.

Media really seem to be struggling with how the app and changes to scanning will actually work. Newshub at 6pm tonight was a shocker - they keep going on about the low number of notifications send out by the app as well as the low number of Bluetooth notifications sent out.

They don't seem to understand the concept of how the Bluetooth proximity tracing actually works. The reason we've also got such a low number of app notifications is many of these events were large scale events (2 x 1000 at Spark arena) where scanning was not, and still won't be required as organisers are required to have records of everybody there. At schools it is much the same.

It's official - at 1595 pages, this discussion is now longer than the notorious "The Former President Of The USA: Donald Trump impeached twice" thread (a mere 1594 pages)  🙂

Stu: I agree with the sentiment of many/most/(hopefully all) here. Why not make it mandatory to scan/record entry at all essential locations (supermarkets, medical, etc) right now, and as we move down Alert Levels start making everywhere else compulsory? Just do it.

In the press conference, Hipkins said they were reviewing the penalties as well, which would require a law change. I'm not sure that retail is exempted in the change, I can't find a source for that - I'm hoping that its just that its exempted till the alert levels change - the rule doesn't come into force until alert levels change. I agree it should come in straight away, but depends on the actual wording of the order - if you have to have someone at the entrance confirming it, then that could take some time to setup for businesses.

On a related note, I'd like to see that once you've signed in on the app the LED light flashes a certain colour (changeable by the business each day [for say 5 mins]) so that its easy enough to confirm - yes it can be faked, but alot quicker than trying to read that the person has actually signed in on the app and not just showing a photo of a random sign in.

Was also interesting to hear in the media conference that Apple and Google wouldn't accept mandatory QR scanning as the only way to access businesses ....[has to be an alternative].

The data is available for everyone to see

There are more people using Bluetooth active then there are scans prior to the outbreak.

Whats that tell us. People still think BT is a magic bullet and all that is required.

Surprise. It has minimum time between shared keys. Not instant. The model works on the original ~2min and proximity limits also. So doesn't scan 100% of time.

The best it would have done would be say, warn people at a table of 8 at the spark event.

Anyone over 40 here not yet vaccinated or booked?

Before they opened it up for those aged 40+ I filled in the form as such and was told I’d be contacted. Just did the booking now by filling out all the same detail again. I guess they’re relying on the advertising to make people fill out the form again?

Or, and here's a novel idea - less people are scanning because there are much fewer people going out?  There are currently 3 in my household, all with BT enabled - every time I go out to the workshop, or anywhere far enough away to be out of range of BT and then come back within range, another BT handshake is made. So I'll be making a lot of BT connections each day, without making a single scan (haven't had the need to leave home yet).

I imagine there are a lot of people doing similar without realising.

They are both phoning people up and sending out letters to tell people that they are now eligible

^ I got a letter dated the 11th August advising me of my ability to get the vaccination, it arrived on the 20th

Do people in the South Island think that it is possible for us to move down a level depending how the next few days pan out? Or because we need the North Island for a bunch of food that is either sent on a plane or driven down (as well as other things) would would start to see shortages

Sure, my 'are' was meant to be 'were'. But still accurate. There was bugger all scans prior. But plenty of BT. Reasonably constant infact. Both then shot up on Tuesday night during the scramble after the case was announced in the morning.

It's in the data - there are as many scans now, in LVL4, with the increased number making sure they do. As there was, when there wasn't the 'urgency' to with increased active population.

Reinforcing my statement. People thought bluetooth, was all that was required. Pooh hits the fan. They action.
