There appears to still be a testing backlog, and until we're on top of that it's pretty hard to draw any conclusions IMHO.
A 17,000 backlog is only half a days tests. 12 hours behind. I'd cut them some slack. I'm sure they are aware of it and are methodically working it through.

Even now, we should be ordering booster shots. It is fairly well known that the pfizer vaccine reduces in strength and that a 3rd shot will be needed.
So many LOIs are either gyms or fast food joints.
Same or different demographics?? 😀

Not necessarily true. Possibly click bait.
In the same article it says
Less effective in stopping infection but should on theory stop Hospitalizations and deaths. So in theory no need.
I am not sure which article you refer to, as I did not quote one. However, from the horses mouth...
Israel, US, are giving third shots now.
Lets order them now, so we will have them on time. Get on the front foot for once.

We already have boosters for the priority groups (per Hipkins), and it was reported in July and earlier in August that discussions were underway with Pfizer around boosters for the general population.
Hard to say as the science is still out on this one, but personally I suspect a booster will be needed (or at the very least advisable and certainly do no harm).
I thought I heard Dr Bloomfield the other day saying we'd be getting boosters, but weren't sure if it would be the same formula we are getting now or something modified for the newer variants (paraphrased).
IOW, they haven't ordered anything and are waiting. I'd suggest there's only so much waiting the general populous will put up with from about Christmas this year.

Minister Hipkins in yesterdays presser - We have an extra 2 million shots coming before the end of the year ( we ordered 10 mill, only need around 8 mill ), these can act as booster shots if required for the initial recipients of the vaccine.

Media: There’s research from Oxford University last week published regarding the ongoing
efficacy of the Pfizer vaccine. It shows it becomes less effective four or five months after the
second dose. Are you concerned that when you do order booster shots, that four- or fivemonth period will have already lapsed for our front-line border workers, who will be operating
at the front line with a lower efficacy?
Hon Chris Hipkins: So we already have additional shots available should we need to use
them for booster shots. So we’ve got over 10 million doses of the vaccine coming between
now and the end of the year. We know that we’ll need about 8.2 million of those doses to fully
deliver to the eligible population if everybody comes forward to get one. So we will have
additional doses available, and, of course, we’re in conversations to make sure that we have
supply available next year of vaccines—supply is available next year—and that includes canvassing all of the different options and looking at what our needs will be. We’d make that
decision as we always have: based on the best health and science advice available to us

We could have a couple of million doses left over so at a pinch maybe we could use that to buy some time?

A third dose or a booster is great, But Id like science to catch up with Delta first

Our 12+ population is just on 4.4m so we'd need 8.8m doses for 100% coverage of the eligible population. The MoH vaccine xls page still shows a figure of just over 4m because it hasn't been updated from the 16+ guidance.(4.09m people aged 16+).
Does anybody know what wastage is? I thought I heard an estimated 2-3% a few months ago. And more importantly is 10m based of 5 or 6 vaccines per vial?
Many people have taken snippits of the Oxford study (and other studies) about decreasing antibodies and through a lack of understanding assume that this is really bad, and that the vaccines are becoming ineffective, which is simply not true.
Every vaccination delivers neutalising antibodies which weaken over time, and that's how they're supposed to work. We still have B and T cell protection that stays in place and is probably the most important part of a vaccine long term.
What we do know is that for some at risk people the body's response in creating neutralising antibodies, and subsequently B cell and T cell responses, does differ. For those people a 3rd shot may deliver a significant boost in protection.

thank you that's what i mean.
anyway ... you're optimistic about people wanting to take the vaccine. i'm not so sure. i think you'll have plenty left over.
but yeah let's see what the guidance is. israel is boosting but the UK afaik is looking at only boosting if needed https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-58271911
