Fred99:I'm sick of foreign economists and politicians distorting facts then pointing the finger at NZ's response in order to defend their utter failure containment measures.
I'm surprised the issue over this apparently public walkway at the Crowne Plaza MIQ hotel, which would appear to be how we currently suspect this outbreak started, hasn't got more attention in this thread? Would have expected one of the usual 'critics' here to have picked this up and run with it by now.
In any case I'm actually in utter disbelief that we have an open-air exercise facility for an MIQ hotel directly next to a walkway used by the public, separated only by some plywood, apparently next to an outdoor walkway used to access an office block. Albeit they've said that MIQers can't use the exercise area until after returning a negative day 3 test, I still don't think this set up is a very good idea.

For those who also aren't aware of this walkway it's been in place for a while now - this story from last month has good photos https://www.newsroom.co.nz/public-walkway-rubs-shoulders-with-miq

"Concerningly, only 12 of the 65 cases were in isolation throughout their infectious period."
Maybe look at a lockdown perhaps? I heard they work well
Well we had Olympians complaining about how poor exercise opportunities were, wanting more active exercise, more space more time.
The whole smoking areas and exercise areas thing, could we give people free Netflix, Disney, Prime etc in their room.
Its 14 days not forever.
Mrs decoy had to order a new Apple laptop rather urgently as her one decided now is a nice time to play up and start going on the fritz. Laptop and some new accessories.
The laptop is shipped separately to the accessories, so 2 courier visits. Both drivers made me go to them and finger sign their table because, according to them, Apple insists on it. Pretty crap policy, surely something could be done that is acceptable while we are in level 4.

We'll see if you are quite so glib in a month.
There's a real possibility of NZ being much the same.
Yes, I'm being glib. You don't point finger at bad luck, sh!t happens. But NSW is not bad luck. Late lockdown, low lockdown, disappointing compliance. NZ isnt the perfect Covid country by any stretch, but what we do, works. In a few days here, new infections should start shutting down as they have little opportunity to be created, the 300 cases minimum we will have end of week will be recovering. Should that happen, its not wonderful, its just plain math, the missing variable is the flouter factor, which we do have but not too bad.

Would it have made any difference? Thee are probably lots of little things like this which should be common sense. It shouldn't take the media to find them IMO.

FineWine:
During the first lockdown we purchased, online, 2x2 reusable face masks with disposable filters. We have never used the filter component for them as they are also triple cloth layered. However the one thing we don't like about them is they are a bit small even though this was their largest size, at the time.
So we have been looking around for a larger sized reusable mask, similar to the ones you keep seeing being used by TV1 reporters, the PM etc. These masks, unlike ours, appear to really wrap around the whole cheek area and well down the throat neck area.
What are members preference in reusable cloth face masks ? 😷
Analyzing markers of premorbid intelligence did not support these differences being present prior to infection.
frankv:
That surprises me. I'd assumed that lack of cognitive function made people more likely to get covid. I mean vaccination and isolation aren't rocket science.
Well that's no doubt true. But OTOH there's also been paper published - where pre and post covid infection MRI scans on hundreds of patients in the UK had shown physical evidence of loss of grey matter.
https://www.news-medical.net/news/20210618/Alarming-COVID-study-indicates-long-term-loss-of-gray-matter-and-other-brain-tissue.aspx
It also ties in neatly with numerous anecdotes about "brain fog" in "recovered" Covid patients.

Who cares? It's for their domestic audience.
Are you referring to the ones that don't get syndicated by NZ's half-witted media?
And the Students who disappeared next door on Friday are back! Lockdown - what Lockdown!

This sounds serious. Again, pointless to discuss here. Needs to be brought to attention of the right people
I mean true... but you could argue we're up to 1600 pages of pointless to discuss here 😁
It's obviously got the attention of the powers that be now, but it just seems such a glaring oversight and obviously silly.
I've been generally very supportive and defensive of our Covid-19 response (as imperfect as I think it is) including the MIQ operation. What I will say is it does seem like there's little central control and command and oversight. Seems to be a lot of things that are left up to 'operations' to execute as they see fit - but in my experience as a project manager, operations are generally not that good at operating and actually really need to be spoonfed with their actions checked off.
