The PM contradicted herself, saying level 4's been extended for an "additional four days", until end of Friday. Previously it was until the end of Tuesday, so that's only an additional three days. I presume that the Friday date's correct, but is there an official document somewhere? Or too early for that to be published yet?

Edit: covid19.govt.nz now corroborates the Friday date.

Who cares? It's for their domestic audience.

Are you referring to the ones that don't get syndicated by NZ's half-witted media?

The syndicated ones are equally pointless. Hate reading just gives them traction.

Interestingly, I was listening to Barry Soper this morning, and he commented that the initial advice (ie Monday last week) to Cabinet by the MoH was L4 for Auckland and Coromandel through to 2359 on 31 August right from the start.

To be honest I don’t think anybody should be surprised by either parts of the announcement. Except maybe some South Islanders had their hopes raised by media speculation. Speaking to a friend in Christchurch he suggested they should just lock down the North Island. “Fine” I responded. “As long as all the vaccine resources are diverted north as well.” I think he is still my friend…

New confirmed case at another Auckland School, Green Bay High School.  This one is close to home, my kids are at Green Bay primary and many of the high school families have younger siblings... Reckon its only a matter of time before the primary and intermediate get dragged in!

I was confused by a similar thing myself.

Watching the broadcast the headlines down the bottom read something like:

"Lockdown originally intended to end at 11:59pm tonight"
"Has now been extended to Friday 11:59pm"

Obviously they are talking about the "Full NZ Lockdown" - but I was also certain that it was due to finish tomorrow evening (in line with Auckland's original one week)

I see Countdown Supermarkets had a meat supply problem today (no problem at other chains) due to their centralised butchery model. It should be fixed by tomorrow, but the article also had comment from local butchers about them being able to open. I thought that had been sorted out over a year ago, obviously not. If dairies can open using a limited entry/exit strategy, why can’t your local butcher or green grocer? I guess the butcher could sell ice cream, soft drink and cigarettes and call themselves a dairy.

I thought it had been fixed too. Makes no sense that butchers and green grocers couldn't open and operate on the same 'one in one out' basis.  I would feel safer in those type of stores than many of these cramped old dairies. Not sure why supermarkets have been given such priority, when butchers and greengrocers are very similar to supermarkets, but specialise in single things. It is also not great for supply chains. I wonder how much food waste there has been this time. There has been almost no coverage of it.

IMO they should have been working on increasing ICU capacity over this last year. Australias ICU per person is double NZs, which is why they think they now won't need elimination when they reach 70% vaccination. NZs ICU capacity is the second lowest per person in the OECD part from Mexico.

I think everybody feels AKL has a decent stretch but updating weekly makes sense. Things could improve if they gave a future date. Week by week works. Im in ChCh, Level 3 seemed 'ok" but they want more time that's also fine. L3 only means Macca's and annoying click and collect, if you need to be there.
