Herald has the cases again, and by 11am:

The number of total Covid cases today is just over 50 - and all in Auckland, the Herald understands.

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/covid-19-delta-outbreak-cabinet-decision-on-auckland-north-hours-away-govt-ministers-positive-signs-navy-miq-workers-await-test-results/7GFLFW4CUF64RGDBO74Q6G5M34/

Hopefully this is an actual drop and not just a 'we processed fewer tests and there were fewer people getting tested' thing.

Fun fact..

Banks are adding to the list of 'places I can make the next close contact place' - yep, even level 4 areas are opening.

Bit of both. I saw multiple jab centres putting the word out for walk ins due low bookings. Testing was likely the same

They asked the PM about 'their friends at the herald' that seem to know more than they let on as a breach/leak. Weren't concerned. As there was likely 'other organizations briefed on evolving situation' leading up to the presser.

But really, it's just a first to the post attempt.

/edit

Transcript is up now

Media: Prime Minister, the good people at the New Zealand Herald are now publishing
the case numbers with some accuracy before the 1p.m. briefing. Do you—does the person
leaking these need to pull their head in? Do you have a problem with that?

PM: Well, it is fair to say that for the management of an outbreak, a wide range of
people do receive situational updates as part of our pandemic management. And that’s
important, we need health services to be aware of what’s going on, different people who are
part of our emergency services. And so that does mean that there’s a wide amount of reach
and, with that, comes an element of risk. Look, the most important thing for me is that we
just do everything we can collectively to manage that pandemic—the pandemic—and what
happens around that, I just consider noise

A Covid positive case was at Tasi Market on Massey's Triangle Road three times last week - on Thursday, Friday and the latest visit on Saturday.

The affected times are:

• Thursday, August 26, between 7.30am and 6pm
• Friday, August 27, between 7.30am and 6pm
• Saturday, August 28, between 7.30am and 3pm

Aww Heck...
That resets the clock, another 2 weeks at least to be sure that exposure (Plus any onward ) is snuffed out ?
3 whole days of customers for contact tracers to track down for those who scan, for those that did not who knows.
I did note a fruit shop in my area sneakily open when I was out, but not many customers so hopeful, somewhat less now.

I'll give you short odds that this becomes a problem. My partner walks near there for her exercise, and has commented about people waiting to get in not distancing or wearing masks.

That's probably likely? Weekend and all that

On the positive side, as pre lockdown is a while back now and all the cases have infected all their families, thats probably tailing off now. So we need to know how many are household/contacts (has been 37 from 80, then 75% lately, and how many are true CT, the latter is the only metric we really need to know

Further down in the artlce:

Most of the new cases will be from tests on Saturday, when 23,000 people were swabbed for Covid-19. That was lower than the 36,000 tests on Thursday and 37,000 on Friday.

i only care about the number coz nobody else seems to know any better. where's my diagram.

i could be deeply disappointed tomorrow and the day after from all the people running around AKL brewing the stuff and seeding all over the country and that's ok.

for today i look at the number, then i drink my grog, then i look at tomorrow's number, then drink grog, and so on.

what else is there to do

Are you, as an individual, going to make behavioural changes based on finding that information out?

Hopefully it's not just as a result of lower testing over the weekend.

Regarding booster shots I'm not massively concerned yet because this side of Christmas at least it should resolve itself.

As the current wave of low hanging fruit is processed and dries up, vaccine supplies will build back up in October and we will also still have the infrastructure in place to get a 3rd jab into groups 1 and 2. Also with the tailenders getting their 1st jab and then waiting 3 - 6 weeks for their 2nd there is an opportunity to administer booster jabs to all comers that are coming due in that space.

Me?   No.   But I would like to see the outbreak for what it really is and avoid media scaremongering. If we can see the household/contacts vs CT daily numbers that will tell you a lot that you need to know, and if that was actually better news than the sensationalist media reports, thats good for some people's mental health, especially in AKL

Not quite sure what you are getting at

Taking focus away from us vs them. Or NZ particularly. My viewpoint - It's such a big thing still globally. I don't hold much hope for the next few years for any of us no matter how good we make it this outbreak.

2020 Different to 2021?

It was a rampant virus in people. Travelling as a result of people. Infecting people

With countries at different point of that timeline and race to the front of it.

Worst case - Killing innocents or those non believing people who didn't take precautions until there was some further protection

Now?

It's still as above. Infecting more people. With a hint less of the last worst-case bit. And a need to re-adapt all over again because of the former bit.
