Martial arts training/ boxing (and other indoor contact sports) - what are the level 2 rules?

No advice at all from government! Some rules say they are allowed, but, other rules say they are not. (how can you contact if you have to keep 2m apart?)

Oh yeah, and do you have to wear a mask for indoor contact sports? I feel it would do nothing to prevent viral spread.

The Wellington and South Islanders finding restrictions unnecessary.
Not sure if there is somewhere to easily see the numbers crossing Auckland borders every day. Its not inconsequential.

This is the thing that rest of NZ and South Islanders should be aware of.
South Islanders may say , well that's only Mercer, a North Island problem.
There is free interchange between South and North Islands outside Auckland. Many might be coming to a ski field near you too.

Some truckers, trades and essential workers were most unhappy with testing and monitoring at the boarder of Auckland,
and a bit of vaccine reluctance perhaps.
Apparently some of the Tauranga Port associated reluctance were a not insubstantial number of truckers saying they don't need to.

Agree, but note that not all of us should be tarred with that brush. But it makes good headlines. Me, I'm happy to be able to get stuff for some projects at home, but then I'll continue to be psuedo Level 3, masked, scanned etc, as normal. NZ is fighting an outbreak.

Comes down to the facility. But logic would state that's not a team sport. And thus can't occur due distancing. Just like Gym 1:1 cannot.

So you say indoor team sports are allowed, but, not indoor individual sports?

It doesn't make much sense.

That's how you know it's an anti-vaxxer/conspiracy theorist.

The fact a GP is in that lot bundled up by the authorities is a bit of a highlight on why people believe BS. Hes a Dr, he must know (microbiology/virology). They will use whatever ammo they can to suck in ordinary folk using "Dr Google", who just wanted facts. The internet has been an open platform for too long now. I can see how Covid will put talk into action and we will see law and maybe even protocol changes to the internet. Not for freedom of speech, or even accidental misinformation, but for in this case malicious disinformation but potentially for anything unlawful. High level changes globally, more macro at national levels.

It does seem a little surreal how a virus pandemic of relatively low mortality has had such a big impact/change, some of which is permanent, to every day life.

Watching a movie last night with a line applicable to this, from memory "What do people fear the most? Change"

However obvious the sentence is, it is the backbone of conspiracy theories on topics that impact every day living. From there, those afraid of change, target the generalised narrative of fear to grab the layman out there looking for some answers.

For this reason I turned down change management roles, further back in my career. But most of us in tech see it day to day regardless of what role we play.

Just my 2c on how this whole agenda has become such a massive issue. I enjoyed the stuff article from the "plain clothed" reporter on the anti vax cell.

Im with you bro.

And this is what I am mostly missing right now too. After that storm blue over a tree onto the house, my worst nightmare was to find a whole in the roof/wall and not knowing what the freckle to do with no access to trade materials.

I only dropped the mask after the last lockdown, Im keeping it after (assuming) this one has ended, however over the top that may seem when supposedly we do not have the virus living amongst us.

Back on exercise and masks, given how people are nonchalantly walking passed people etc on the pavement unmasked. Is there any type of mask that makes exercising (rapid breathing) easier but not like the ventilated ones that still allow the virus to escape from the mask (but not in)?

surfisup1000:

It doesn't make much sense.

neither does allowing the above exercise, let alone using Gyms, which at the bare minimum should have mandatory air ventilation that expels not only carbon but aerosol spittle at a designated legal requirement,

Not much in this world currently does

But you can't cater for stupid or those who will find a way to manipulate 'guidelines' to their own advantage regardless.

Which is ultimately what everyone will be trying to do. I want to do it. I need to do it. How can I still do it, while avoiding what part will prevent me.

EVA Air pilots confirmed as delta infections in 2nd such outbreak in Taiwan
https://www.taiwannews.com.tw/en/news/4281786

While there is a lot of comment elsewhere that no-one has controlled delta, Taiwan have taken their cases down to single digits.
They have had a few days of zero cases in past week, however controlling boarder is always problematic.

Low vaccination rates as they have to beg and cajole vaccines out of companies as a certain country has grabbed regional supply rights.
High density population centers as well. Something to think of given critical role Taiwan plays in fabbing our favorite semiconductors.

Singapore also sometimes sited as having freedom of living with SARS-Cov2, is not taking its foot off controlling outbreaks, and increase efforts when cases rise.
https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/health/spore-rolls-out-measures-to-slow-down-community-cases-including-health-risk

""
Singapore will expand its testing regime more aggressively to keep the Covid-19 situation under control, as the number of new infections last week doubled to more than 1,200 - up from around 600 cases the week before
""
MOH said Singapore's rate of severe illnesses and deaths among vaccinated individuals is low, thanks to the country's high vaccination coverage.
""
To detect cases early, mandatory rostered testing will be extended to retail mall workers, supermarket staff, last-mile delivery personnel - including parcel and food delivery workers
""

Not laissare faire as some have interpreted the response.

Our worlds leading CPU industry has to beg for vaccines? That is seriously not right. Its not right that any country has to. Hopefully leading vax makers once ahead of the virus will be able to produce more exponentially.

But it is good news for our fellow man elsewhere in the world to see elimination strategy works/working on Delta. Also makes me feel even more confident in our approach of using the best tools available as part of our elimination approach.

I will have to read the article when Ive got time, but does it mention lockdown strategy there as well?

Edit: Had a quick read, now trawling through the various articles and its wiki on their approach, given how close the Island is to mainland....

TSMC has even put on several "Air Vax & Vacation (Air V&V)" flights to Guam so staff members can get vaccinated against Covid-19.

It's been going on for a few months : https://edition.cnn.com/travel/article/taiwan-guam-vaccination-travel-intl-hnk/index.html

Need to have very low covid numbers to keep their soldiers healthy because their big neighbour has it eyes on their stuff.

Havn't seen that on the news, but there is an aging population set to plateau the rapid economic growth. However these questions from international leaders in my opinion need to not interfere with international team efforts to get ahead of the virus.

Its amazing how it can send one on a roller coaster ride. First wave I had no concern and really thought countries would do what seemed fairly obvious re strategy, has not impacted me much as Im house bound most days anyway, then this time around it made me much more concerned, especially after seeing our poor friends in India are going through. Now Im thinking less emotively again and have a lot more hope than ever given our response efficacy seems to be working, the Bangladesh study on the use of mask efficacy and now looking into the Tawan strategy.

Conversely, It seems to have not affected some people even in the slightest.

I really do enjoy when the pro disease people bring this kind of thing up as evidence the vaccine is bad.

Oh, but 27000 scientists are against lockdowns and vaccination. Nice factoid there, but the reality is that is only 0.3% of the worlds 8.8million scientists.

Oh, over 3000 architects and engineers disagree about how the twin towers fell on 9/11, oh, that 0.02% of the 12.7million engineers and architects in the world.

They will always only deliver you the number of doctors or engineers that agree with them, they will never give that number any context.
