Most the supermarkets emailed advising that if possible avoid shopping Thursday.

Just got a phone alert, hundreds queuing at supermarkets.

Sigh. What hope does humanity have?

You are right. Between this and the numbers that are seen to be travelling to holiday hotspots as per the media and police checkpoints, its wasting a part of this last 2 weeks. And how can these lot cope with another two weeks.

Yeah, forgot to consider that people were going to rush because they hadn't yet prepared for the shops being closed for a day. Had just avoided leaving the house until it was necessary for a medical appointment, but we're well stocked for anything essential and the Easter eggs can just arrive later.

It was known 10 days ago. Peoples unwillingness or inability to plan is just mind-boggling, especially considering many of them are not working!

Supermarkets get busy the day before they're shut for a holiday regardless, this is just compounded by the lockdown. People lose their minds if they can't do something even for a single day. joker.jpg

It's almost like people don't know that the shops will be open Saturday!?

I'm working. I can shop 7 later afternoons a week. 7 nights a week. Heaps of opportunities.

OK, went on my exercise earlier this week, cycling around the neighbourhood because running is not great for my dodgy knee.

Got a flat tire, tube is presta.   Tried to puncture repair kit it, but, the tube is really narrow and I've tried 2 or 3 different patches but nothing is doing the job.

But, can you buy an inner tube with presta valve anywhere? No.

Bike shops are not an essential service, but , it would be nice if one bike shop could be operating for online orders only!!

I'm thinking presta valve tubes are the incarnation of evil! Can't use the petrol station air pumps, have to use a special pump, benefits for general cycling are pretty much 0.

But not tomorrow, everything will be shut for the Easter Good Friday holiday. 😱

Cue screaming, running around in circles crying "no shopping tomorrow", panic buying again etc
:-(

Sigh

There was an article this morning which made perfect sense talking a little bit about the psychology of this.

The government and supermarkets saying don't panic buy, the supply chain is secure vs the media showing empty shelves and massive queues to get into the supermarket.

Then shifting the messaging to "shop normally" which is apparently better. I guess people just have that psychological insecurity that because the shops are closed the next day they need to stock up the day before, even if they normally might only shop once a week.

It's easy to judge but there are many Kiwis that live week to week and day to day. They don't have the advantage to buy ahead or on a non pay day.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I've had emails from both Evo Cycles and Torpedo 7 saying they're available for essential items, so presumably that includes tubes!

I know you can buy a $7k groupset as an essential item if you're that way inclined from Evo.

That may be the way you think, but others can think differently.  IMO, planning is overrated; when plans are necessary, ok, but I prefer to keep options open to the last possible moment.  The diversity of people's approaches to life is a good thing, and shouldn't boggle anyone's mind.

Ohhh, thanks. I checked a couple of online stores earlier in the week but they said they were closed.  I'll get onto this right away!!  Getting out on the bike is so important to me at the moment.
