I am surprised Auckland isn't higher, and that Wellington leads the 1st vaccination numbers. Waikatos numbers aren't great compared to the rest of NZ, so would expect to see their numbers jump now.

I can't imagine why there could be any expectation for Akl level to drop when Hamilton will be in L3 from 11:59 tonight - for a minimum 5 days.
That's Hamilton's problem. We have a tough enough time getting on top of our own situation, if you make it contingent on Hamilton's deadshits as well as Auckland's then we'll literally never get out of lockdown.

You're presuming that the two cases in Hamilton East and Raglan are "deadshits". That's not a reasonable attitude.

I wouldn't have expected Auckland to drop from level 4 to level 3 when it did either, in terms of logic and past outbreaks and Delta being more contagious, when they still had community transmission occurring. But they seemed to justify it by saying that the undetected community transmission wasn't 'widespread', so it was still manageable, and they were combining efforts with vaccination. But I think the uptick in numbers over the last 5 days is showing that cases are now increasing due to the move. It seems they have ruled out going back into level 4.

With the Maori vaccination rates so low, something is going to need to be done IMO, otherwise it is like a slow train crash. Asian first vaccinations is 94% !

Let me be clear - I don't think that about the current cases in Hamilton/Waikato. I am more concerned it will get into the non-compliant, possibly Tamaki/Destiny-adjacent crowd, of which Hamilton has its own fair share.
Keep in mind that the people who went to the Saturday protest in Auckland now have a motivation to avoid getting tested if they get sick, or seeking medical treatment if they get really crook. I'm sure we'll see the fruits of their labours soon enough. The lack of any immediate consequences for them will embolden other idiots like Tamaki all across the country.
To get back to the point: the fact there is *some* Covid in Hamilton should have no bearing on what happens within Auckland a monitored border. Otherwise what's the point in having it in the first place?
It's probably a moot point given that Auckland is now in real trouble; both with the protesting idiots AND the increasing frustration from those who have been prepared to do their bit until now.

I think he’s saying Hamilton will have similar levels of non compliance to everywhere else so containment will be difficult rather than referring to the two unfortunate people.
Yea that's pretty much it - and holding that against Aucklanders as a justification for keeping Auckland at L3 is rubbish considering that people have been happy to seal Auckland off and get on with their lives.
Like I say, probably moot, given Auckland is likely on the precipice of an explosion in cases, or at least closer than it's ever been before - so staying at L3 in Auckland is justified on its own merits.

i was going to make a joke about what this chart also seems to reflect but i wont!

Fair enough.
I also think Auckland will soon be in deep trouble sooner or later - but close to instant if it shifts to L2.
I'm about 99% sure level 2 won't be happening tomorrow, especially since there's still community spread, and it's now spreading elsewhere.

But is it 'widespread' community transmission? The government hasn't said there wasn't previously community transmission when they dropped from level 4 to 3, just that it wasn't 'widespread'. I don't think it will be a level 2.5, but they may allow some more freedoms.
But IMO it is the flouting of the rules and lack of reporting and enforcement that are the problem, and what happened yesterday where a large rally was allowed to take place.

What would you have done to stop yesterdays protest? You either let it happen or there is likely a riot.

And in the Herald is stated "Tamaki thanked the police for working with him to make it a "peaceful but powerful day"."
What a slap in the face for us in Auckland doing the right thing.

We don't have air force strike capability anymore, do we?
