Mandatory vaccinations for teachers and people that work in schools and early child care.  and schools will need to maintain a register

Teacher mandate
The teacher mandate will cover all teachers and other support staff would have any contact with children or students. It will also covered early childhood centre staff and home-based educators. Schools will be required to maintain a register of their staff’s vaccination status.

This mandate kicks in slightly later: The workers must be fully vaccinated by January 1 2022, after having a first dose by November 15.

If you're looking for graphs etc, the best I've seen are these ones produced by Radio NZ. I check these almost every day -- much more informative than anywhere else.

There's going to be massive fallout - still unclear messaging and the vaccine mandates were absolutely pathetic. No police, no supermarket workers which you would think is a massive one.

What is the actual benchmark for going down to Level 2 or 2.5? 90% first dose vaccination?

Auckland stays where it is.

Northland L3 until Thurs night pending testing data.

Waikato will also be L3 until then with a shift to L2 unless anything major comes up.

Just updated now (Sorry - busy new days).

Some observations:

  • General upward trends continue
  • Significant jump in running total of unlinked cases in the last few days. Proportion of unlinked vs linked cases is up in the last 4 days.
  • There is a correlation between test numbers and case numbers. Your case numbers today are down significantly, but so are your testing numbers, so it's likely the true number of positives is higher.

These are great! Mostly the same as the couple I had made (plus many more) so maybe I can stop.

i think the vaccine mandate - the theme seems to be to protect other people. health care workers, are hired to protect the sick and vulnerable.

police and supermarket workers - no need to protect - police don't come in contact with sick normally, supermarket workers and normally have close contact with people, no more than waiter.

teacher - not sure the theme there. to protect kids giving to their grannies?

For primary school teachers (like myself!) I think the mandate makes sense given we are working with up to 100+ kids at any given time who have no vaccination to COVID-19. Remember many newer schools have 'modern' classrooms with 100+ kids all moving around so an outbreak among kids in a 'modern learning environment' could easily become a massive super-cluster.

Not sure why it's been extended to high school teachers as well but possibly just keeping the net wider makes it easier to police this, as well as acknowledging there will be some teachers and other eduction staff who work at multiple schools so might as well make sure they're all vaccinated.

I'm already double-vaccinated myself so no worries there.

Mandates,
Police deal with 'people' that often threaten to infect them, spit on them etc.
If you end up with too many Police on 14 day isolation or worse.
It also empties the threat somewhat, maybe usual 'customers' will not bother with antics.

I would have thought to enter the Police college much like the Military you had to show you had certain vaccinations ?
So vaccines would not be a surprise.

Well I can see it going wild on late night radio talkback.
Antivax are getting very nervous as more get vaccinated they are shown as a noisy minority.
83% eligible at least 1 vax or booked by yesterday.

People who can't be vaccinated is absolutely small, not the same as 'thinking' you can't be vaccinated.

to prevent a massive super cluster you vaccinate the kids not the teachers only.

as i said the theme is not to protect self but to protect the vulnerable

if self then everybody should be vaccinated

as mentioned the mandate is to protect the vulnerable not to protect self

it seems like we are maintaining a freedom to choose theme. we live in a free country we can choose whether to be vaccinated or not, so it seems, unless you are working with the vulnerable

They may go up a level if cases go up too far, as a circuit breaker. They haven’t ruled it out. It maybe a level 3.5. They need to reduce the demand on the health system including normal accidents.

on the news watched PM say can't give any definite endpoints/shift points, still watching the outbreak. also not yet opening up Auckland as vaccination not high enough

note - news said auckland is 86% 1st dose, about 60% fully (didn't give a number only a pie chart, can't find it anywhere)

also interview people asking for an endpoint/shift point

Good to see that it looks like Waikato have ring fenced it and close to elimination. This shows that it is possible to eliminate it if cases leak outside Auckland despite what some on here were saying.
The R value in Auckland is now apparently between 1.2 to 1.3 so hopefully this will drop.
