SJB:

Completely agree. Shame it wasn't 4 months ago.

But people couldn’t as they didn't have supply of vaccinations, and it was initially limited to only older age groups.

Do you think they'd make vaccination a prerequisite for the dole?

Was watching a short video of an expert Ryan Bridges interviewed said, which struck accord as Ive been saying it too, the advent of the internet is what has exponentially grown conspiracy theories, thanks to anyone being able to load click bait. Only recently did social media even consider removing it from their platforms.

Im pretty sure we didnt have a choice in TB, Polio, Smallpox etc, all our child immunisations etc. :-)

This pandemic is kind of lucky with the progress in mRNA since the 80s, but unlucky in the sense of the internet trolls.

I can see vaccination being required for many things. Much like people need to wear masks. Mask usage in the UK is very high in certain environments. I look at the UK as an example of where NZ is heading, and dividing their numbers by approx 10.

No. That would be stupid.

I don't know what others think, while it was a great effort overall I was disappointed with the number of 1st vaccinations.

With all the hoopla I was hoping for a much bigger proportion of 1st vaccinations. The 2nd vaccinations were, for all intents and purposes, already in the bag.

After today's 1st vaccination numbers I think we have a steep hill to climb to get to 90% on a countrywide basis. If today didn't spur people into action what will? I think we have a hard core who are resisting getting the vaccine. People, actually idiots, like BT don't help.

Perhaps in the less densely populated areas we might get away with a lower vaccination rate. I really hope so because like it or not elimination is over, we're in containment mode for the time being but that too will slip away from us.

Even though retired mods aren't active mods, I will always consider them part of the team. And what Cokemaster says is true.

It does beg the question, was the vaccine roll out late and was the Govt a bit naive with its elimination policy in probably the easiest country on earth to have such a policy? I mean, once we started getting serious, it seemed we had to beg and borrow to keep up with demand, which was only driven by an outbreak. Were they complacent in thinking NZ would 'avoid' Covid, .....

I guess given how hard it is to get any transparency at the moment, we will never know.

But I am enjoying the world laughing at our leader/s, especially the 3 stage memes rofl. (cant beat em, join em and such hehe)

I am looking forward to booster roll out, Im sure they have that planned, given immunity wane and pfizer alpha based vax full immunity efficacy vs moderna's (thoughts are due to modernas alpha based, much larger dose) against Delta. Hopefully if we are late enough, we will be on the tail end of a Delta based roll out (after poorer nations according to Moderna). Or we may just go on the cheap (who knows what pharma will charge for a delta based vax, very privy info I am sure) and do the same as Israel with a 3rd alpha based booster (whilst not a virologist, in theory seems logical, the total dose would be closer to Moderna, plus its spread out to fight against the wane factor), which should be in less demand by the planned roll out. I am being serious though, especially for us vulnerable, Im hoping its planned already anyway.

I have to agree, I dont want to rain on the sunshine as it was still a good effort.

We kind of needed 1/4 being 2nd dose not the other way around (there abouts). Auck is getting there on the bright side. Havnt looked at the suburb tool yet, Im assuming it wont have been updated.

IMO Auckland’s first dose rate wasn’t great, today, when compared to the rest of NZs rate. Especially when Auckland needs first vaccination rates to increase before a drop in levels is likely to occur. Many people were due to get their second dose this week anyway. Still have to wait 2 more weeks after the second dose to be most effective

It picked up around 5% of the unvaccinated. That’s a very good result.

i like your political statement. you sure know what it takes!

that would be excellent though, people who don't want a job that requires vaccination should get on the dole quick smart.

Perhaps it is, though I'm not convinced.

5% of 17%. Based on your 5% number with all the publicity and only 0.85% of those eligible bothered to turn out for their first dose? I know we're getting to the bottom of the barrel where the hard work is but I had hoped for better than we got today.

We need another 7 days like today to hit 90%.
