I went electric when I started shaving my head. Paying for razors would have cost me a small fortune.

I did like the wet shave result, but it's slow and messy compared.

I purchased my kit (Muhle Razor, Astra blades and Proraso cream) from http://www.mancave.co.nz/ 4 years ago and haven't looked back. I used to have a lot of nicks/cuts with "safety razors" - tried Gillette, Schick etc.

I decided to take the plunge after watching a few videos on youtube on how to wetshave using a razor blade and got it right after a couple of times.

I usually change blades after a month (everyday shaving!) and Mancave provide very fast shipping, usually arrives the next day!

Nice! Try feather blades, I got a trial pack from man cave of like 5 different brands, feathers just owned everything. Trouble is they are also the most expensive, and if I'm not careful they are they are brutal and very unforgiving if I haven't lathered up properly.. what's your favorite prep method?

Yabanize: Dollar shave club sounds pretty good. See it advertised by alot of youtubers.
Apparently they're shipping to NZ soon

They have been shipping here for a few months, apparently they are available even cheaper elsewhere but I haven't spent time looking

Whilst I lived 30yrs in Sydney, I used to purchase all my shaving needs from Gowings, a man's man farmer's store. This went out of business in 2006 after 136 years. They provided all my body & face products except for my actual razors which has for the most part been Schick Xtreme3.

Initially I sourced my body & face products from the original purveyor, “Taylor of Old Bond Street, London” . I only did this once as the shipping was horrendous.

You see I am a SANDALWOOD nut and all my products are sandalwood based.

Just before I ran out of various products I discovered an on-line company in Melbourne “MensBiz” and they for-filled all my sandalwood body and shaving needs.

In March this year my partner and I returned to NZ and though I have yet to order any more products from MensBiz, having stocked up prior to returning, I will need to in the future unless I can find a NZ provider of comparable pricing.

Recently I purchased a razor and brush stand which I had discovered through TradeMe. The trader also has a separate website “WetShaveNZ” . As we are in Tauranga and so is the trader, I was able to go to their place of business, their home, and try out various stands prior to purchase. The price for the stand was comparable with Amazon and the original USA provider. Image here Note: This is a new product and WetShaveNZ has yet to update their website.

MY SANDALWOOD PRODUCTS

Taylor of Old Bond Street
- Sandalwood Shaving Cream
- Luxury Sandalwood Deodorant Stick
- Luxury Sandalwood Cologne (day to day use)

Geo. E. Trumper
- Sandalwood Skin Food for post shave
- Sandalwood Hair & Body Wash
- Sandalwood Cologne (night out use)

D.R. Harris & Co Ltd
- Sandalwood After Shave (very special occasion use)

Busby Natural & Essential Oils
- Pure Tissue Oil for pre-shave preparation

And various locally made Sandalwood bar soaps.

I have only just recently started using a pre-shave oil, OMG I wish I had started doing this decades ago. What a difference in shaving and the post shave result - smooooooth as a babies bum.

Anyway if anybody knows of any local or NZ providers of these products at a reasonable price, let me know.

Or you have a favourite Sandalwood shaving or body product, also let me know.

Cheers.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Hi Guys
Im new here just though id give you me two cents worth or maybe it should be $2 worth today :)
I have just started down the road of cut throat shaving. I decided the only way I was ever going to get good at using a straight razor was to only use a straight razor.
Its been tree weeks now and no major cuts. I bought a good second hand Gotta razor $20 a brand new shaving brush (badger) $80 and a strop $45.
My first shave took about 40mins I now have it down to about 20.

Another nz website for shaving gear is smelllikeaman.co.nz I nearly went back to a regular Schick razor when I was starting with safety razors before trying proraso shaving cream with a badger brush and feather blades.

blackjack17: I use hair clippers, I am never 100% clean shaven so nobody ever expects me to be clean shaven.

Every couple of days run it with no guard.  I got sick of paying for blades.  I run in to work and shower there so shaving there is difficult.  I tried shaving in the evenings, but by morning I looked unshaven, so I thought why not embrace it.

this. remington the model with no oiling required. hasn't cost me a cent for 2 years now. umm ... i only shave every 2 weeks though ... every week if i'm lucky!

I switched to using a double edge 6+ months ago and have never looked back. Cost me ~$100 for a nice razor, 200 blades (100 Astro 100 Feather), 2 tubs of proraso cream and a badger brush from Amazon (+$30 or something shipping).

I shave 2 times a week and change my blades every 2-3 weeks. At this rate, my $20 of blades will last me at least 4 years :) - Hell i'd even be happy if they lasted me 2 years.
