Hi everyone,

Sorry to the mods if this is in the wrong place, but as a shaving enthusiast it's become apparent there are very few places you can go to see and feel the shaving product like badger brushes, or blade handles.

So long story, there's a new store open in Riccarton mall called shavers+, there's an Aussie website - shavershop.com.au.

I changed to double edged shaving many months ago and estimate I've saved hundreds of dollars from rolling into Gillette's pockets!

Worth a look if you're in the Chch region. If you've got any questions there are awesome websites out there like badger and blade, or simply post below.

What's double edged shaving?

I bought some Gilette blades from Best Buy Blades a couple months ago. Took a few weeks to arrive but I saved around 30% off NZ retail. From memory they shipped from Singapore.

+1 For Double Edge razor. Spent around $100nzd on amazon getting myself all up and sorted (Razor, 100 Blades), Badger brush and alum block and have defiantly "made money" on not having to buy new Gillette blades.

My Barber does shaves and beard trims, it's not cheap though. Where are you located?

The old style razor with only 1 blade, the razor either opens up barn door style, or completely unscrews to accept a blade.

I've got one of these.. which works really well.

And use these blades..

Double edge = safety razor

Much closer shave and cost effective. $20 worth of double edged razor blades will last at least a year.
I was looking into straight razor shaving but the hassle of maintaining the blade puts me off...

I got The Hubby™ into using a Dovo straight blade, and he is looking for a new brush. Do you know if they sell stuff online (edit: locally, I mean)? I make soap, and I've spent months perfecting proper shaving soap for him, but I'm struggling to find a decent brush under $100... (yeah, I'm cheap)

Well that's unfortunate for you as my barber is in the Wellington CBD. If you are ever down in Wellington or if anyone else wants to check the place out here is the website, Boar and Blade.

Silver tip are the better ones. Softer and retains moisture better than the rest.

I think they are in Queensgate Lower Hutt also, didn't go in, but definitely a new shop there... Upstairs near The Warehouse.

I saw that shop yesterday and thought that won't last long. I asked myself what percentage of the population buys new Razors per annum. I pick gone with in 12 months.

I use hair clippers, I am never 100% clean shaven so nobody ever expects me to be clean shaven.

Every couple of days run it with no guard.  I got sick of paying for blades.  I run in to work and shower there so shaving there is difficult.  I tried shaving in the evenings, but by morning I looked unshaven, so I thought why not embrace it.
