bigreddog: Sounds good - thanks BillGates, is it uncharitable of me to hope it doesn't fit you?  embarassed

Cheers!

It is perfectly normal. I have a really bad feeling that Large will not fit me. I have see some unboxings of the band and it looks like to be a Medium size for me. I will sell it to you for USD$199 + Youshop shipping to me + courier to you if I am unlucky.

I'm a medium. There isn't much difference been small and medium whereas large is quite large

gocheck: I'm very interested in the Microsoft Band. It seems to be the best band on the market at this moment.

Just got a question, if I run with the band but without smartphone, can I know how far I has run from the band?

Yes there is a setting on the Band for how far you've run

Thanks man.

Edit - If you do find a medium for me, feel free to use the Starbucks $5 voucher over there as it will be useless in NZ.

Probably one of the more complete and well thought out MS products they've released for a while, as long as it's not too much more than a JawBone in NZ it could do well

paulmilbank: Seriously, US only. Microsoft are really inept at this product launching thing.

Microsoft finally announces a product and launches with stock on the same day, supporting all platforms... and still gets slammed.  I think this is a huge step up and hopefully we'll see this more and more as their hardware capabilities are ramped up.  Have you seen how many markets the Apple watch sells in currently?  Yeah, none.

Someone inside Microsoft forgot to tell their relationship managers what is going on, because AT&T is launching the Lumia 830 with a free Fitbit instead of a Microsoft Band.

A great chance to have another entry point in the fitness/trackers market, gone.

This is rubbish.

Microsoft is making a health technology ecosystem with Microsoft Band and Microsoft Health. We are making friends not enemies. Microsoft wants to partner with Fitbit not crush them.

All the technology in Microsoft Band is licensable to others.

While the idea of an ecosystem is good, can I use the Fitbit with Microsoft Health now?

If not then AT&T pushing out Lumia with free Fitbit is odd, when a Microsoft Band would be more... fitting.

Received my Large size today via YouShop. It is a bit loose on my wrist which I know will not give me accurate results with the on board sensors. I will wait for a medium. bigreddog sent you a PM. Your prayers to not fit me have worked!

Choice is a wonderful thing.

Personally, I'm sticking with the Fitbit Ecosystem as it works for my needs, for now.

Also the Fitbit deal was likely a done deal before availability of the Band was known about widely, also it's probably and easier sell for AT&T when more people are more comfortable with Fitbit than an (at the time) unknown Band

The Endadget Microsoft Band review is not very flattering:

"And the Band seems more like a prototype than a consumer device. It's bulky, uncomfortable and has disappointing battery life. You could get a comfortable fitness tracker for less, or a capable smartwatch for a few bucks more."

Pros:

  • Works on iOS, Android and Windows Phone
  • Lots of data, thanks to a raft of sensors
  • App has a clean design and shows promise
  • Connects to Cortana on Windows Phone
  • Guided workouts are extremely helpful

Cons:

  • Hardware is uncomfortable and poorly designed
  • Microsoft Health is mostly promise
  • Smartwatch-like battery life
  • Does too many things, many of them poorly
  • Seriously, the Band is really uncomfortable

Well... it's now mid January - and buying one of these things - is it worth it? - still seems a hard thing - even in the USA let alone New Zealand...

* Bing NZ's still beta - how long has it been now? - how many *years*?
* so Cortana isn't a great option given the US settings required to fudge it
* so a Band doesn't seem a good idea in NZ yet (?)
* and even if one wanted to purchase, it has to be online ... "More coming early 2015. Check back in 2015, or visit your local Microsoft Store for product availability."  It's a Tui ad eh.

They *look* good, but yet to see a complimentary review.

BillGates - what do you think of your Band?
