I get my teeth scaled regularly and have never thought of buying my own, if I did I'd go for a ultra sonic one - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dental-Woodpecker-Ultrasonic-Piezo-Scaler-UDS-P-tips-compatible-With-EMS-/251105958484?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a7714da54

joker97: do you guys charge your electric toothbrush everyday? mine is great freshly charged. after that it's pathetic. we are talking about the most expensive oral-B one. ?$200?
maybe the head has worn. but I brush manual with better results.

Replace the battery - if you choose the right oral-b model its not too hard.

Another +1 for the electric tooth brush.  I would never go back.  My three year old daughter thinks the same thing and uses my electric tooth brush as well.

Not going to answer the OP question but chime in.

I have my teeth professionally cleaned every 6 months. This also doubles as a check up.

I didn't look after my teeth very well for right up until my mid 20's so I have to be more careful.

My brushing routine now is the following.

1, Quick brush with a dry manual brush, apparently this helps stop the plaque/ tartar building up to start with

2, Full brush with manual tooth brush with tooth paste

3, Brush with my electric toothbrush

4, rinse with Listerine (only sometimes as needed)

After getting all my old fillings replaced and doing the new ones over a few years I have not had any more problems.

My electric toothbrush is a oral-B one about 4 years old and stays on charge all the time, however I took it with me on holiday for 3 weeks and the battery was fine.
