I am trying to find those metal tooth scalers you can use at home to scale your own teeth to remove plaque. Anyone know which supermarket or other shop still sells them as I can't find them?

Sounds dangerous to the enamel. If you clean your teeth at least daily and also floss them well, I wouldn't have though something like that would be needed? I recommend using an electric toothbrush too.

+1 On the move to an electric toothbrush. 7 months on and the noticeable difference is quite amazing.

I have been using one for the past 15 years, and one of the best things I think you can do for your teeth.

If it's that bad go see a pro. You could easily do damage if you don't know what you are doing. I have never seen these for public sale. Wifey has been out of the dentist game for a while but they were a specialized medical device only available from medical supplies companies. +1 on the electric toothbrush.

mine lives on the charger when im at home, and when im away with work ill change it once a week or so.

but my wifes one, brought at the same time seems very underpowered compaired to my one, doesnt last any where near as long and just sounds different/slower when being used. they have pretty much the same use out of them.

They do seem to have quite poor batteries for the price.
Though I get 5 - 6 days on mine. I brush once a day.
Sadly you can't change the battery....

"May be the head has worn", you say that as if it has never been changed. If the colour of the bristle has faded and the end looks like a toilet brush give it a new one.

My 1st Braun (expensive at the time) lasted nearly 18 years before the grip surfaces came off. The battery was still good for a week at a time. It got replaced by a basic model that works just as well.

Am using a metal scriber that engineer/mechanic use to scribe on metal.
One end has a 90 degree bend and the other is a straight point
It is cheap, and have a thicker handle, much easier to use than a dentist tool.

You can probably pick one up pretty cheap and works very well for me.

No it doesn't look like a toilet brush. It just won't do the tight spaces very well compared to Sheldon Cooper-commitment brushing.

Oral-B (and maybe all of them) are both the greatest thing since toothpaste and a huge rip-off. I switched to electric years ago and would never go back. I also use Oral-B by choice. The problem I have with them is they still use the old Ni-Cad batteries instead of something more modern, and these are designed to fade after a few hundred cycles. They also can't be replaced without destroying the toothbrush (I tried). If you actually take one apart, there is nothing in it to justify the high prices charged. So electric toothbrush: +1, current implementation: bleh.

I would periodically leave mine running in the drawer to completely drain the battery, then give it a full recharge. That extended the life somewhat.
