I started with the 4-blades from DSC, which were a bit average (went from a Gillette Fusion).

Changed to the 6 blade and they are a lot better, but I would say the Fusion is still a better shave.

I cannot stand the prices of the Fusion refills, so will stick with the DSC 6-blades for now (I have a heap of them as I get 4 blades a month, and probably use 3 every two months - must go and change my plan to bi-monthly).

The 6-blade refills do not fit on the 4-blade handles (and vice-versa). DSC send you a new handle when you change your subscription.

Is this the bic disposable you're referring to?

They can be quite nasty if you are aggressive with the angle. I use a Weishi DE razor from aliexpress and vokshod blades from ebay, 100 for $14 which last for a year since I go through two a week.

No, they were like this but from Countdown. https://www.amazon.com/BIC-Hybrid-Advance-Disposable-6-Count/dp/B00394DTE8

I use the same BIC disposables referred to in your Amazon link, and not had a shave rash. Couple of nicks when I get too enthusiastic. :-)

I also use the Primal Earth shave creme / lotions - from Countdown - nice slick feel when using the razor.

Different skin types, and the lay of the hair follicles seems to affect the quality of shave.

I blade shave alternate days, in the shower, and with a cheapie electric razor on the in-between days (not in the shower ...).

I think the hot water and steam, etc, from the shower does soften up the skin and hair to make a better cut.

I had a nice Philishave gifted to me as a Fathers Day pressie, a number of years ago, but for the life of me I couldn't get to to shave properly. Had missed bits, shave  rash, etc. I passed it to my older son, and it worked a treat with him.

Other Philishavers, and other electric shavers I don't have an issue with - just this one particular model ...

I'm trialing them, but via an ebay purchase. I find the Hydro 5 a bit more harsh than the Gillette, slightly more skin irritation, and the shave isn't quite as close. It's pretty good though.

Is that deal in person as well as online?

I went with Harrys, rather than DSC, being they appear to sponsor every damn podcast I listen to.

They don't ship here, but they will take a AirNZ "works anywhere in the world" card, and will ship via YouShop.

Best. Blades. I've. Ever. Used. and $85 USD / year is rather good.

For context, I also have a shaved head.... :) I use the blade 3x/week, then throw the head out.

So you have a different blade each week? so you got 52 blades?

Well, it's a 3 (or 5?) blade razor.... but yeah. I buy them in packs of 16, 3 lots at a time, so about 48 heads at a time.

Don't bother with DSC, they just put a markup on someone elses gear.... These are the same as DSC supply at the top end.

I know you can get them from Dorco, but looking at the website it doesn't seem much cheaper, I don't know if its changed

Its $57.90 USD for 24 cartridges which ends up being $80 NZD, so $3.33 NZD per cartridge, Dollar shave club is $2.50 per cartridge
