I've just put down a deposit on a new bed - we're shifting from a Queen to a Super King. We always get the most restful sleep of our lives when we're on holiday using much bigger beds, and I'm fairly certain that I'm going to start putting my otherwise well-functioning back at risk on our current 15 year old second-hand mattress.

I mean adding an extra few inches in the bedroom for a mere $3K is the kind of deal most men wouldn't walk away from, so how could I not?

I've been a futton convert for over 20yrs. Not sure why more people don't go down that route. Their are lots of permutations of inners available for a different firmness. As a bonus I was able to fully compost my last two matresses.

When my partner and I first first started living together, 41½ yrs ago, we shared a regular double for 3 yrs. Then went to Aussie where we bought a queen size for 12yrs. Then upgraded to a king for 24yrs. This was damaged - twisted - by the packers in the container when we returned home. So hence the new king, as above.

"We always get the most restful sleep of our lives when we're on holiday using much bigger beds,"

Regular Double = very cosy and all that touchy feely stuff (ah hm) but we were young and flexible 👨‍❤️‍👨 😍

Queen = little less cosy, but still great for snuggles etc 👨‍❤️‍👨🥰

King = not so cosy, plenty of room for restless legs, not so disturbing to each other for those bladder runs and plenty of room for the pets as well (2 x cats) 🐈🐈 👨‍❤️‍👨😇

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Just an update we brought the spine supporter plush from beds 4 u. The spine support is awesome but me and my partner are finding we're quite hot and the heat gets reflected back up. Has anyone else had this issue. It's been about 2 weeks and will give it one more otherwise we might have to look at taking the 60 day comfort guarantee and swapping the bed with something cooler I will keep you updated.

Seems like it could be a mattress protector issue? If you've got a thick mattress protector top (or a fleece one) then it may be retaining a lot of heat.

Ours is pretty lightweight and we've not had too many issues with it heating up. We were required to use a specific one for mattress warranty purposes so they threw it in for free.

Hi guys another update.

Slumberzone and beds4u came and picked up the spine supporter bed. They gave us a temporary grand ortho queen bed and told us to try that one out to see if it was comfortable and not hot. It was the next model up. Trainer out for a couple of weeks I found it was a bit to firm for my liking and it was hurting my shoulders when I slept on my side. My partner found it was ok. I went and tried the plush version of the grand ortho out in store and found that one was better. So I ordered that one up and about 6 weeks later it turned up 3 days ago. 3 night's sleep later and we are doing all good. Lower back is good shoulders a good partner's good. I will update in another month or so and let you guys know how the grand ortho from beds4u got on. Just to note this is the most expensive bed you can get from beds4u. This cost us 6500nzd for a Californian king mattress only at half price. So I better be good.

Love this thread!

Before I found it, my wife and I did the rounds and came down to two super-king beds…
The Sleepyhead Sanctuary that Smiths City have on special at the moment for $4999 OR
The Slumbertime Spine Supporter for $5249 from Beds4U.

For us, the Slumbertime wins, for the following reasons:
• The spring technology appears to be better
• There is no detectable partner disturbance
• It feels more comfy
• Beds4U are tossing in the right mattress protector and a few other freebies

Both have the same warranty, and the Sanctuary is (according to the sales person) last years model that they have bought gazillions of.

The comments in this thread over several years, seem to support our view and we will be off tomorrow to place our order. I hope the thread remains open until January so I can report back once we’ve been in it for a few weeks. Thanks to all who have contributed.

I heard two radio hosts on a popular radio station were testing some new fancy sounding bed, but for the life of me I can't recall what the bed was, does anyone know?
