Eva888: First Lockdown bought 20kg of flour to accompany the other 2x5kg already in the pantry, 1 kg yeast, had various jars of sourdough starter bubbling on the bench tops because that’s what the world prescribed. Baked ONE loaf of bread and 6 pitta breads since March 23rd. I have enough food not only for another lockdown but for a nuclear winter caused by an Earth-directed CME

Unless you have other uses for flour other than bread making even 2 x 5kg was too much. It doesn't stay in top condition forever. Worst case you'll end up with it full of weevils.

dejadeadnz:

The number one positive for me is that it's dragged NZ at least a decade ahead of where it would otherwise have been on its attitude towards working from home plus flexible working. Before it was a kind of thing that people just tolerated or individual teams/managers did on a discretionary basis, with a limited subset of shining examples where flexibility as to time and place of work was an established norm.

A good win for workers.

It's not just NZ. My employer has stated at a board level that mobile working and flexibility is the new normal for white collar roles. Doing this with an organisation of 320,000 people isn't a trivial excercise.

My fitness and diet have improved immensely, especially in the last month. My wife and I have been very diligent at exercising and I'm much fitter and stronger than I was in March.

As someone who has always struggled with my diet it's been very satisfying in the last month to get some weight off while still getting stronger.

I like how my partner has now accepted my purchase of a 3D printer after I've printed and given away around 60 "Poking Devices" to essential staff in the last 4 days.

Now printing a special edition one for her in Purple Silk PLA+ - this stuff is really annoying to print (unlike printing in solid Black, Yellow, Pink etc) so she better appreciate the effort I've gone through!

COVID showed up what has been argued about since long time before: Internet bandwith has been oversold by (near all) the IPSs (at least twice here in DE). The sudden demand pulled the marketing's promises.

So after the first few days, they raped up and immediately closed a lot of pavement during the nights and suddenly there was 250Mb/s found in the rural areas where people got told 50Mb/s should make them happy in the past. There were absolutely NO complains of the ISPs doing the investment after years of high margins. :-)

Good for customer's mind and further development.

While we are talking about the positive side effects of COVID-19, I have to add this.

I am somewhat of a rabid consumer.

I am obsessed with new and shiny things.

I like that under the "new normal" I can now shop online for the coolest and most interesting re-usable face masks. It stops me shopping for Mountain Bike parts or Sneakers.

Another positive of covid; pc parts / electronics have gone up in price over the last few months. Utilizing FB and Trade Me, I managed to upgrade the majority of my system for under $100.

Allows you to open doors, press buttons etc without physically touching said doorhandles or buttons.

How many dollaroo? I'll buy one if it's ~$10? (ex. shipping) I hate touching door handles/lift buttons but am way too lazy to take the stairs haha.

On a postive note:

I like the mask directive has resulted in me getting out my late mothers sewing machine for the first time since she passed, and learning how to sew. I can imagine her laughing at me trying to use it! A nice way to stay connected to her. She would have been right in there, making masks for people!

I'm sorry I did have a "fun things you can do with a bag of flour" section but deleted it.
