cshwone:
I suspect we are talking at cross purposes here and I believe you are referring to Pulse measurements whereas my interest was in BP
I am talking about the Blood Pressure Monitoring (white cuff that inflates).

Understood and somehow we are getting different results.
BP results can vary between machines vs manual BP's with a cuff/stethoscope. Also if the BP was taken on the forearm or the upper arm, if pt was supine or sitting or standing etc, time of day, and what their BP actually is (eg high BP of 180 systolic can sometimes misread on some machines), size of person's arm and cuff used, even how anxious a person is at getting a BP affects it.
I've seen a fully calibrated machine sometimes give a inaccurate result, and other times accurate. Who trusts a computer anyway? 😀

Now the Watch 5 is out, I assume that it still doesn't have this function? I bet we don't get the temperature one either...
Just announced. The update is available now:
Samsung Electronics today announced the Galaxy Watch5 and Galaxy Watch5 Pro — shaping health and wellness habits with intuitive insights, advanced features and even more powerful capabilities which includes ECG and blood pressure monitoring. This new watch update will now enhance the features that Kiwis rely on every day, and give more ability to achieve their health and wellness milestones.
In addition to all the already available and insightful sleep tracking, personalised design options and other wellness options to help shape everyday health habits, the Galaxy Watch5 series is equipped with Samsung’s unique BioActive Sensor that drives the next era of digital health monitoring. The ability to measure your heart rate, blood oxygen level and even stress level has been a staple of Kiwis Samsung watch users, however with the latest update users can get a deeper understanding of their heart health by monitoring blood pressure (BP) and Electrocardiogram (ECG) — right from their wrist.
The new ECG functionality, now allows users the ability to record the heart's electrical activity of repeated cardiac cycles through the Electrocardiogram (ECG) function, which also includes an Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification (IHRN) feature proactively monitors heart rhythms suggestive of atrial fibrillation (AFib).
High blood pressure is when the pressure of your blood on your artery walls is abnormally high, potentially causing artery damage and health problems over the long term. Known medically as hypertension, high blood pressure affects up to 1 in 5 New Zealanders and is a significant contributor to the incidence of heart disease and stroke. Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 5 series now unlocks the technology to be able to measure the wearer's blood pressure.
Samsung has launched blood pressure and electrocardiogram (ECG) tracking for the Galaxy Watch5 starting 31 May 2023 in New Zealand. For those who want to elevate their fitness journey, the Galaxy Watch update is available for download which will release a new level of personal fitness monitoring device to complement your regular medical check-ups.

What about the Watch 4? I know it’s capable because I’ve been using it on mine via side load for a couple of years.
I understand it was a regulatory thing in NZ. So has that now gone?
Edit: Never mind, just saw johny007g’s post that included the GW4.

Approved most likely. No info about Watch 4, although it seems to be also available according to @johny007g.

Can confirm it is available on GW4 via this morning’s firmware update.
Calibrated and working, so have deleted the sideloaded apps from Watch and phone. The sideloaded apps have the developer’s name appended to the version number. So easy to identify the correct ones to delete.

The companion app on the phone is called Samsung Health Monitor, so I’m not sure how you get that on a non Samsung phone because it is in Samsung’s Galaxy Store.

I grabbed my Galaxy Watch 4 Classic out of hibernation to try this out. I have a medical grade blood pressure monitor (A&D UM 211 Professional) at home. Comparing the results between the watch and the monitor the watch was out by around 15 higher for the Systolic and around 8-10 higher for the Diastolic. The heart rate was fairly accuratewith my resting heart rate around 45-50bpm. I put the Galaxy watch to sleep again and put my Seiko back on.
Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

your comparing a $700+ blood pressure monitor to a $500 watch.
its a good gauge (monitor trends) but should never be used for medical purposes

I agree and that is why I have a professional monitor. I was simply trying it out and showing the results I gained.
