when they are being replaced every 1-2 years due to changes in the eyes.

Eek! I'm just starting out with glasses. Is that common?

Thankfully not for everyone!, we went for ~5 years not needing any new pairs, but then the last 6 years or so it's been a reasonably regular change. It's worth getting the regular checks, some people wonder why they are getting headaches etc... and it can be that your vision has been changing over time.

It's another case of NZ being on the far end of a supply chain with a low population, just compare the deals between specsavers Aus and NZ, the lenses are all shipped from Aus for NZ orders, but NZ pays significantly more even for single vision lenses.

My prescription has been pretty stable since I was 16 at -6.0 or so, now 42 and I'm getting the ole long sightedness to boot (can't read stuff up close either).

I've had optical as part of health insurance so have tended to get new glasses each year, mostly for aesthetic reasons, but it's meant I've been able to try things like photochromatic etc knowing that if I don't like them I just wear another pair. NB I wear contact lenses most of the time.

How long in one day do you wear them?

Ah the longest now might be ten hours? I'm at the point now where I'm on the softest dailies, and pretty much can't wait to take them out. Quite often I'll take them out mid afternoon once my work is done.
