Good luck Mauricio.

I'm 59 and had a PSA of 5.31 in March 2024. I had a couple of Biopsies to check a few things. I was diagnosised with Prostate Cancer but it was "Active survalence" for a while. PSA remained stable upto Oct 2024 but then Dec 2024 it starting creeping up. I have Brachytheropy treatment in April of this year and it has been succesfull and my current PSA level is 1.68.

My next check up with the Urology team is in a couple of weeks and I'm confident that I'm winning the battle.

I can't emphasize this enough.... GET A CHECK UP GUYS!!

I was lucky they got it early and it was a routine check up when I had no symptoms.

GET A CHECK UP GUYS!!

Good luck from me as well Mauricio, I hope it all goes to plan.

I'm not going to say 'fingers crossed' because to me that just doesn't fit well with prostate checking.🙃

On that note though, this thread has got me thinking.  I'm 60 and I've only ever had bloodtests to check my prostate state, which have fortunately come back clear.  Does the GZ hive recommend I go and get a proper digital examination done?

Not medical advice. Do you have any symptoms?

Getting up multiple times at night, feeling that it is unfinished, slow to start?

I do not have these symptons, only the PSA which was borderline. The referral came after a physical exam by the GP, who though better to check it out, just in case.

58, my PSA was 5.24 prior to last Christmas; so specialist appointment / diagnosis (incl MRI) followed by surgery (lasers, cool!); fortunately in my case no signs of anything malignant discovered.

A couple of weeks off work for recovery, and now things are fine.  Yes, I had symptoms prior (similar to what was mentioned above), all nicely resolved after recovery.

PSA back to 1.4 on latest test.

No symptoms, very rarely have to get up for a toilet visit and no flow problems.  PSA last done 6 months ago came in at 1.14 ug/l (< 3.50).

I never visited the doctors regularly (even had letters about did I still want to be enrolled), but about 7 years ago had to be put on pills for hypertension etc, so now go every 6 months. My doctor is big on mens health and when I made that first visit back then, had a physical check and bloods done (was 45 - 46 at the time), all good. The doctor did say though that prostate cancer in men is inevitable, something to do with the gland itself, its just that either men sometimes don't live long enough for it to manifest (and it can happen at almost any age).

I'm off to get blood test tomorrow as not had one for over a year..... I usually get them every year due to various health issues. Prostate is on the list of things they're checking.

Getting older sucks :D

Hmm, sounds like this style of operation 😀.

As others have said, start the process by VISTING YOUR DOCTOR  and getting a PSA blood test and the finger exam.

Age doesn't matter. My uncle had prostate cancer at 35!

So I have a strong family history of prostate cancer. Dad, uncle and grandfather all had it and all had successful treatment, BECAUSE they got in early enough.

To echo words of surgeon I visited, "well you are here now, and we are seeing you early, so that makes a big difference!"

So this is my story. Started PSA blood tests mid early 40's, results were around 3.5 to 4, but because of family history went to 3 monthly bloods to monitor, two + years ago, psa went over 5, so that got me referred to hospital.

Tests before hospital visit sky rocketed to over 10, which was very alarming, so got MRI and biopsy. Results of this was no cancer, just benign legions.

Now this is important, because I spoke up during post test phone consult (mentioned issues around bladder not emptying etc), got referred for further tests - flow and something that you don't want to visualize. Would have been closed off otherwise.

So what I have is an enlarged prostate and which in turn causes issues and to top that off, had left groin hernia repaired and now need right done. Exercise helps keep hernia at bay.

I've heard stories of blokes that were to tough to get checked, and died, so bottom line, get checked.

My cousin's husband was diagnosed about 2 years ago after months of (according to my cousin) "being all manly and shit" and ignoring all the symptoms. By that stage it had spread to quite a few places and become terminal. He died 2 months ago and will be greatly missed by all the family. I can't agree with everyone more to get checked, and do it early!! All the best Mauricio and thanks for bringing this often sensitive subject to light.

Uncle is currently in Auckland Hospital. I'm not sure how many years ago he was originally diagnosed with prostate cancer (at least two or three years), but his PSA level is apparently in the thousands at the moment. Dad's trying to arrange Hospice care for him. He's 92, but still, bloody cancer.

I can't remember when I'm next due for a checkup, but I'll mention it next time I'm at the GP.

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2020. My PSA had been creeping up for around 18 months. I had no symptoms. So far so good after 4 years post surgery.

Get checked now, you'll have a baseline

Check your relatives. Any history? I know a guy diagnosed at 49yo. His brother had it too. If you are adopted or there's stepchildren involved, can you check your family history?

Scared of ED and incontinence?  It won't work at all if you leave it

Please get tested

Small update: the follow-up was change from last Monday to this Friday, waiting on biopsy results.

In the meantime, the MRI specialist noticed a small mass on my femur, but being a bone it can only be identified through a CT scan.

When I had my consult with the specialist to decide on the biopsy, I had the option of going back to the GP and get a referral to a bone specialist to then request a CT scan, or the urologist could request the CT scan directly and refer to a bone specialist if anything showed up.

CT scan was done last week, and the result showed a benign mass inside the bone. So that one is clear.

Waiting for the end of this week for the biopsy results.
