all DHBs on track to hit 90% double (umm slowly). Northland in last place

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/covid-19-coronavirus-vaccine-tracker-how-many-kiwis-have-been-vaccinated-and-how-do-we-compare-with-the-rest-of-the-world/ENMCOHM5QW6W3UN6MRMCOQKO2U/

Quite interesting to look at that.

It's quite conceivable the country will hit 95% fully vaccinated in 22Q1 (The big DHBs - Auckland, Waitemata, Capital and Coast, Canterbury and Southern) are all well over 90% first dose (and all but one of those is over 95%). They account for 47% of the nations total population. Counties Manukau added into that takes it well ove half the nations population.

As much as I'm frustrated with the government over the Auckland border (and more so over them seemingly -IMO- not enforcing restrictions that could have beaten it in Level4), the vaccine rollout has gone well (generally) and NZers have been keen to do their bit and get jabbed (apart from a very noisy, quite small, minority).

I get so depressed seeing all the misinformation and bs on the likes of Facebook, it almost feels like playing whack-a-mole. If you report something to Facebook (or does that go to the administrator of the community page?) either Facebook does nothing, (in rare instances) takes it down, or, puts the person in Facebook jail. Even if they take down the post and put the user in jail, there's another moron spreading misinformation within 5 minutes. Depressing :(

@quickymart I recommend taking a step back and a deep breath mate.  It’s really easy to get riled and finding yourself getting frustrated and agitated, and it’s not good for your mental health.

Keep in mind that the vast majority of folk are sensible and overall we’re heading in the right direction.  You’re exposed to the drivel you’re seeing because of Facebook.  It knows you’ve clicked on a ‘controversial’ post so it will feed you more of the same crud.  If it’s specific individuals turn off getting their updates. (If they’re important and need to contact you they’ll have to find another way.)  Even mainstream media are giving too much publicity to anti-vax related articles in my view.  Even though their general stance against anti-vax is right and their message is get vaccinated, they’ll still publish any old sh** to get clicks.

Ignorance is bliss is a positive thing in this case.

I guess I just wish the antivaxxers weren't so frikken loudmouthed, it's almost like they'll do anything to get attention to their cause. I agree with your comments and thank you.

What makes me really sad is some members of my own family have bought into the vaccine hesitation crap (see my previous posts), and it frustrates me as they seem so easily swayed by the first thing they see.

'Experimental' was my favourite. Any vaccine that hasn't gone through literal years of testing is going to be 'experimental'. Like, really, it hasn't had seven years of testing? A vaccine developed for a pandemic that unfolded in 2020? I mean... come on.

Don't forget the "It hasn't been proven not to cause (insert your favourite irrelevant malady here)"

More people have had this experiment than any medicine in human history. Experimental.

UK press conference at 7am NZT. Expectation is a move to stage B plans nationwide which will impose a lot of new of new restrictions.

Thanks for the heads up. I watched it on BBC.

So we are looking at Omicrons behavior in probably the most accurately monitored systems in the world. And the UK is providing some level of peer review by public announcement - (mainly based off the situation in South Africa).

The projections regarding exponential growth, and the now rising hospitalizations in SA, the mirroring in the UK, are what we need to be prepared for here.

We really need the data on the third shot vs Omicron. Too soon at the moment.

I cannot see how we can entertain loosening the border until we see a lot more evidence here (International border).

Edit: we are in that phase where things are unfolding rappidly, Pfizer have a press release. Crudely, third shot good, 25x antibody tites.

Third shot expected to stand up against Omicron. Two shots will offer some protection from hospitalization and severe illness vs Omicron.

No word of course on how long third shot lasts...no real world data on 3rd shot vs hospitalization. Science by press release should be taken with a measured acceptance. The claim from Pfizer for now, is that in a lab, three shots is as good vs Omicron as two shots vs what we have seen with the wild strain.

I suppose we have to give some acknowledgement, that so far....I stress so far....Pfizers press releases have played out in the real world fairly consistently with their in vitro studies.

Fingers crossed. A hint of good news is better than confirmation of the bad.

I don't mean to ask a dumb question given how long this thread has been running, but is there any discernible difference between "anti vaxx" and "pro choice"? I used to work with a woman who has started posting anti vaxx stuff (including from washed up former TVNZ presenter Liz Gunn, of all people - if you're not familiar with who she is, this story will help explain it: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/former-tv-host-liz-gunn-explains-comments-she-made-about-jacinda-ardern/45IRJENFJLGC7YAG2VIYNJGE2E/ ) who insists she is not anti vaxx but pro choice?

My take on it is the virus doesn't give a flying crap if you're pro-anything; it's only looking for people who are unvaccinated to infect, and that's all it cares about.

Just a nicer self imposed label that doesn't put them in the 'them' bucket.

They tend to think everyone is being forced. And use the my body my choice thing. Masked.

Whereas the others, might just generally go with crack-pot-ness or be even more blatantly.

Ge0rge: Interesting to note that the last three lobby releases have resulted in no one left in the queue - everyone who wanted a room, got one.

Guess it isn't such a lottery after all.

Isn't this because MIQ is currently scheduled to be replaced by 7 days home isolation from Feb 14th? Most people would arrange to come back after that to save the $1500 a week in MIQ costs.

You know I have not met an antivaxxer yet? two years no Antivaxxers. I have met a lot of people who proliferate non stop antivaxxine propaganda, but not a Antivaxxer among them.

I am happy to pin my colours to the mast, as an anti antivaxxer. I don't believe in hiding behind self anointed titles like a certain Apostle self proclaimed who is pro choice.

The thing is though, on our current trajectory, because of what the virus is doing, mandates are going to end up being our only escape.

I am drawing a long bow here for its own sake but.....you could argue that Governments are also not using full disclosure by promising to maintain free choice..as if this is a promise they can keep forever and ever, or at least up until the next election.

'They' tell us they won't mandate vaccines,(yet) if you are paying close attention, you will see that this sentiment, is becoming dated, it is becoming an un-defendable position.

We are seeing now the most relentless war, against the most successful adaptive enemy any of us have seen in our lifetimes.

Perhaps tech and not legislation will get us out of this alone. Perhaps the virus will pack up and leave, or morph into something nicer.

Failing that, we could (without exaggeration either) be in a cycle which lasts a decade.

Corporations and Governments will not let that stand. The threat to global security will be too great. The cost being at the core, the likely real driver, towards a more honest, upfront, mandated Covid vaccine reality.

And I say bring it on. Go Austria.

Pro life and pro choice come from that issue yes. Nothing these clowns do is new. If you want a sad laugh watch the US Bubonic plague doco to see an Industrialist declare the plague was fake news....someone who was a Trumpian figure coined the phrase fake news...a hundred years ago.

Spanish Flu.....protests against face masks.

All this poison comes from the yanks. Nothing new under the sun. The interweb just spreads it faster and repackages the same bio extremism.

Correct. In America "Pro-choice" are the abortion supporters and "Pro-life" are the anti-abortion brigade.

The anti-vaxxers coopted the "Pro-choice" term but I doubt they would support abortion - mainly in the USA.

But you can't expect logic from those people.
