Many of those test sites mentioned above only do PCR tests, which the government only funds for people who are symptomatic or close contacts.

Assuming domestic travel (to leave Auckland or meet airline requirements while not fully vaccinated): Go to below link, enter your address and tick the "Anyone can access" and "Supervised Rapid Antigen Test for New Zealand Travel" boxes.

https://www.healthpoint.co.nz/covid-19/

Government mandated testing to travel into Auckland from lower North Island on boxing day to work in an MIQ facility for six weeks. Fully vaccinated including booster, Government air transport so commercial airline rules not applicable. Unfortunately your suggestions above, while appreciated, aren't applicable.

Per has had to drive just over an hour to get tested.

Is there a reason why they weren't already signed up for saliva testing since they are eligible?

It's so much easier just spitting in the tube and dropping it in a collection box.

This "doctor" Doctor challenges seizure of ivermectin, the unapproved Covid-19 drug he imported for patients | Stuff.co.nz

Murupara GP Bernard Conlon is taking legal action to force Medsafe to release a supply of ivermectin he is trying to import for his patients.

Conlon, who is unvaccinated and says he has taken the unapproved Covid-19 treatment himself with no ill-effects, has filed a case in the Rotorua District Court seeking a judicial review of a Medsafe decision to confiscate his consignment of ivermectin.

Conlon said he took ivermectin, prescribed by a colleague at his request, to protect patients when he was still operating as an unvaccinated doctor, and he experienced no side effects.

In my opinion, he is an idiot.

When this Doctors name first came to public attention, the community leapt to his defence (lowest vaccine rate in the country, mostly Maori).

The people trusted this guy, he must have been a good Doctor, they said he was a good caring member of that community.

I looked into the accusations at the time, and they were around a notice this guy had been promoting about his concerns that the informed consent process, with younger patients especially was unethical at that time.

So I thought, hang on, this is a reasonable complaint in his notice, no one should be witch hunted for questioning whether informed consent is being adhered to in our race to get everyone jabbed.

So, I find it very interesting that he has been exposed and is trying to get hold of that shipment.

It tells me that he was operating covertly and cleverly as a hard core antivaxxer using a 'reasonable voice'....and he was able to defend his position by misdirecting peoples concerns to some esoteric discussion point around ethics.

The fact that he is no longer allowed to practice, yet is still trying to get a shipment of Ivermectin in his hands, shows he is a very dangerous individual and that the people of Murupara have been made victims by the local psychopathic intellectual who has effectively exerted manipulation, control. and fed his ego in the God complex way.

Typically the target is a vulnerable group. Typically their is an indigenous element. Typically he has now seen all of the evidence from around the world, and has chosen to operate in an ethically and potentially legally questionable way.

Where does it say he's no longer practicing?
Also, I think he's an idiot too. So he had no side effects. So what? He's not protected against coronavirus from taking horse dewormer. Just strike him off as a doctor and be done with it already.

They are - but the nearest facility that does it is unavailable today...

I thought it i a requirement that he has had at least one shot by now to be allowed to practice?

That's only for practice in person. Legal for an unvaccinated person to work from home providing telehealth services.

ajobbins:

It's just lucky that Omicron appears to be less harsh, because if it was as bad as Delta, NZ would be in a very bad place. A new variant could appear tomorrow that's worse.

Yes, the NZ health system has suffered from underinvestment for many years. The past 2 years should have been a massive wake up call on that, but it seems that the government is taking the same "it is what it is" attitude and doing very little about it. Yes there is no quick fix, but nearly 2 years later essentially nothing has changes nor does it appear to be.

Im not sure what we could have done in 2 years and it would need to be nationwide, unless we just discarded non ICU areas for ICU then we have another problem. Ive seen occasional photos in the news of tents outside Melbourne hospitals. We are nowhere near that, nor have been. Despite our apparently low class health system. We could have built massive health areas from March 2020, but then it goes like SARS 1, here today gone tomorrow. And empty buildings across the country. Or yes, it could have gone the other way.

I just see it as hindsight. Arguably in the future we may find that we never got overwhelmed, then what?  Not bagging your post, but every day, what we know about Covid is yet to be learned and Omicron is todays example.

What does need to happen is planning for Covid 3 and 4. Expand the health system so that the pandemic section (basically physical hospital building expansions) utilised for general healthcare, then when the next pandemic hits, its just a label change on the doors (more or less, you know what I mean)

Doing this on the fly, not knowing the outcome is a bit hard

Today press release:

https://www.health.govt.nz/news-media/news-items/more-21000-vaccines-given-yesterday-62-community-cases-1-death-45-hospital-8-icu

Good news is the declining number in hospital. (and continued sub 100 daily case numbers)

Bad news is a large number of cases identified at the border (from diverse locations).

IIRC, we should be seeing spread from the relaxing of restrictions here in NZ by now? When AKL and other areas with cases were given a bit of free reign (not criticising that BTW)

But it seems still to be tracking down.

He's totally sold on it.

Covid 19 coronavirus: 'It is real' - Man's message after battling virus in hospital

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/covid-19-coronavirus-it-is-real-mans-message-after-battling-virus-in-hospital/XLQGEBZJDNXYVPNZ4IPIG25YZM/

"But he says he was also "a bit sceptical" about Covid-19 before he caught it himself and hadn't been vaccinated after he says he was cautioned over some underlying health conditions.

He's eager now to get fully vaccinated – and has chosen to share his story to show people how serious the virus can be."

"I got sick. Can I have the vaccine now?"

Another sob story of someone who was misguided. I hope it's a lesson for him but seriously, will this help others?

The way I read it, he's not even happy to isolate another week because he'll miss Christmas. So not sure what to make of it.
