Actually through out this without a tiny percentage being idiots we could have had far less restrictions and crushed this.
However we have to account for special people who run by their own rules

Well as a Professor of Experimental Economics might say, just trust us.

I'm more steamed by the lack of respect of the privilege of home isolation.
The great and good saying all you have to do is trust people.
Ripping MOH and Government for their lack of trust.

Hopefully its just shedding non viable virus, not a more recent infection from the Hotel.
Certainly the nightclub, well if its viable you will certainty have infection.
So we may know soon if our standard test indicates a difference ?

Otherwise we may be lucky, just shedding lots of non viable virus at the end of infection as you do.

I gather that Australia is still sending us 501's in midst of their outbreak ?
I saw an article a few days back about another person who was not in NZ since they were a toddler.
Thanks guys.

Home isolation is a joke from the start. Sure, most people will follow the rules, but the consequences of one person not….

Hopefully they weren’t very contagious, if not this one though with current measures only a question of when.

Daynger:

So isolating at home includes night clubs??

The audacity... the inconsideration it took.

I am furious. And I am furious for Auckland.

What a prick.

It’s not a joke. The point of home isolation is to be used when the consequences of someone breaking the rules aren’t huge.

Ok then, if the case of the bolded part is correct, then no big deal of someone breaking home isolation then, really?

If it’s used the way it’s intended it shouldn’t be a big deal. If you have uncontrolled community transmission already someone breaching home isolation isn’t adding significant risks.

If someone with a higher risk profile is put into home isolation then that’s not a problem with home isolation itself.

We don’t have uncontrolled transmission of Omicron (hopefully still the case).
Are you saying the mistake was not the home isolation, but putting someone in there that was the wrong profile?

Edit

How do you profile someone does not have Omicron before sending to home isolation?

This case only just made it to home isolation. From 23:59 on the 23rd he would have been spending all 10 days in MIQ.

Home isolation is a joke anyway when you can have pretty close contact with family members in the home who are not isolating who are then free to spread covid in the community before symptoms appear and they perhaps get tested. Especially where Omicron is concerned.

If the profiling is carried out by the MOH it consists of asking the person if they will good and self isolate and they answer yes.

Active in Auckland CBD on 26 and 27 Dec.
Boxing day sales 😢
.

On plus side double vaxxed and no one else on their flight tested positive

Edit: What the... At a nightclub!

So that means its moving round in MIQ......

Although I especially liked this BS from the MoH

"With 90% of the eligible population now double-dosed, and the booster programme underway, New Zealanders are well protected."

Case rates in Australia would disagree with the conclusion that 90% double vaccinated will make a population "well protected" against Omicron...

Did the nightclub require vaccine pass? Is this a case where the person was vaccinated and had low level Omicron? and should have been 100% at home as required by conditions anyway..

Edit: answered above.

From what we know with nightclub spread, the number of infected people will be between one to two hundred depending on the capacity of the facility.

Then the on spread by unwitting folks over the hols for this crucial two to three day window, cases will certain be approaching plus two hundred to three hundred ish as I type this.

At three hundred cases, all omicron outbreaks around the world rappidly escalate into the exponential growth curve.

Out plan is to go to Red around the country, I guess we will be in that setting come midnight tomorrow. If growth is exponential up until New Years eve then the gatherings over that period will push us up around five hundred cases which will depending on the context of those cases at public gatherings, kick on from there.

Unfortunately NSW muddied the waters by taking off their masks so tracking it there is not helpful, other states who kept masks on are still seeing jumps in the hundreds day on day.

Slow spread would see us reach around the ten thousand case mark by the end of January. Rapid spread cases will be approaching one hundred thousand.

Quite a big difference I know, so if we are on or under ten thousand we would have done amazingly well.

Do not expect daily case numbers to even remotely reflect the real case count once we go over 5K per day.

Just keep swimming...

Dare we hope?

The Ministry think patient zero was not very infectious at the time of the incursion? Gee I am crossing fingers and toes.
