I hadn't released the change to 10 days MIQ hadn't kicked in yet...

Even despite that, I was under the impression that the incubation period of omicron was shorter than delta? I think there is some chance that the genome sequence will link to another case in that was in the same MIQ facility.

For those concerned about "boxing day sales", take a little comfort that the Auckland CBD generally don't see the same crush of people as the suburban malls.

The audacity... the inconsideration it took.

I am furious. And I am furious for Auckland.

What a prick.

Oblivian: The lotus heart has been pinged the first phase

This was the place where the boss is a natural believer, and gor staff to wear exemptions rather than masks..

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/covid-19-delta-outbreak-christchurch-restaurant-the-lotus-heart-penalised-for-multiple-covid-19-rule-breaches/DFIXPSQJTZAMIUXPDKLGHS36JI/

This case has highlighted that the authorities don't have the tools they need to check workers vaccination status (or verify employers record keeping of said status).

"Vaccination status hasn't been determined at this point but if the business is found to be non-compliant in this area a separate infringement notice could be issued."

As far as I can tell, if they switch us to Red it makes very little difference?

Patient zero was also at Waiheke Island according to socials. He's deleted those now. So if you're at Waiheke island... I would also get tested. Maybe.

As reported on One News in case anyone else is wondering:

Imagine if we had a proper vaccine passport system and if you are isolating your pass is deactivated.... imagine that.

Geektastic: As far as I can tell, if they switch us to Red it makes very little difference?

It was always going to be regional I think:

Using the traffic light system to manage Omicron outbreaks by moving affected areas into the Red traffic light setting

https://www.tauranga.org.nz/news-and-updates/precautionary-measures-introduced-to-keep-omicron-out-of-the-community/

Auckland is in red already, so no change will be needed. That said, government statements have said that they don't expect this to impact on tomorrows move to orange.

Guess they don't consider this an outbreak yet.

There is a chance we get luckily and there has been no spread, but given how NSW is struggling, I think we should be taking this as a opportunity to scramble and get ready:

- Scramble resources into vaccination center's. Have them open for new years stats days, and get mobile units to popular holiday town's. Open 4 month booster eligibility as soon as resources are scrambled. Beg pfizier to bring our kiddy vaccine shipment forward a couple of weeks.

- Get a decent plan of how to resource our PRC testing system to be able to handle around 100k tests a day. Incl what resources can be brought in when we have our rush. And a plan B for if the system gets overloaded (priority testing for close contacts & serious symptoms, Rapid tests for mild symptoms & worried well). Read some local Sydney stuff, and the their testing system is causing major issues.

- Don't make NSW's mistake of easing restrictions with omicron in the community.

If these exposure events do trigger widespread omicron, the good news is that by it getting out soon, we are facing it in summer.

If we get lucky and there is no or contained spread, then we buy ourselves a few more days or weeks before the next introduction via MIQ. Would be ideal if we could get past the NYE parties and to when the vaccination centers are back at full steam.

He potentially didn't have a vaccine pass anyway. People coming to NZ are still struggling to get foreign vaccinations accepted, most are still getting temporary exemption  letters after they apply - based on the issues somebody I know recently had I'd be surprised if he had an exemption letter yet unless it had been organised for him in advance.

But secondly it shows the failings of a vaccine passport system anyway particularly with Omicron where you're just as likely to catch and spread it whether you're vaccinated or not...

It might be regional but even Red doesn't really impose much in the way of restriction.

10 days kicked in at 23:59 on Thursday 23 Dec. If you arrived before then, right up until and including 23:58, you did 7 + 3.

It wasn't applied retrospectively to those already in a facility. Tomorrow will be the last day that someone could leave and begin to isolate for 3 days at home - that's if there is anyone left who can leave. MoH determined that the entire flight was a close contact if anyone tested positive from Omicron, and that then triggers a change from 7 + 3 to an automatic 10 days in MIQ. I would suggest with the numbers of cases at the border, just about every plane would have been deemed a close contact.

He does have an actual passport. I can't help but think that some kind of visa style sticker placed in a passport would have been a good route to go down for international vaccination status.
