Scott3:

NSW numbers:

The lag in NSW case numbers caused by an overwhelmed testing system means the daily numbers are becoming more of a  "rear vision view"

They tend to jump but then stabilise at the new level for 4-5 days until the next jump up...

I think they will bounce around  35K for the next few days before leaping up to over 50K

That old saying comes to mind.

Question: Which tennis player do you support?

Answer: Federer/Nadal etc or anybody playing Djokovic.

Once a dick, always a dick.

They have to hit come kind of testing capacity related ceiling soon. 50k positive test results from cira 110k test's wouldn't supprise me, but would be an epic.

NSW, Victoria.
Good luck in monitoring home isolation, with those numbers.

It will put a lot on personal responsibility and care, roll of dice it could be delta.
I guess they are not giving out O2 monitors with those numbers its up to you to manage.

Just as you organize your own transport to hospital if you have heart attack, don't wait for ambulance.
Uber... Never mind the luggage I'll give you a tip if you drag me to the car.

We have the brightline test, then there is the faintline test, how good is you monitor on picking this up.

Watching the late ABC news before closedown on duke can be interesting.

Last night reported on their own isolation requirements. Have a 5 day stay at home if close contact and tested until negative. Now adding an additional 5 day need to remain masked regardless after (all trust model)

Making students all RaT before being allowed back to school. Which leads them to the next issue.

So many people going positive, and tests needed now, they've run out of RaT stock. Those that have them are raising price now they aren't subsidised. And PCRs are up to 5-7 process delay for results. So for the 48-72 hr needs, most won't make it or back to remote learning
some places are saying 2 RaTs suffice as proof. However the shortage...

Sounding awful familiar situation to the direction given number increase in aus.

Wow, rather you than me.

Really sad that some people's anti-vax stances are so strong that they are use serious threat's to impose their will on others. Definitely not "Pro Choice" in that case.

That statement also applies to politics and religion and cults. It has been happening since before homosapiens learnt to walk upright.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Djokovic

Apparently there are others that may have got in already, under 'rigorous' exemptions.

Apparently the 'rigorous' tennis approving medical panels did not have access to doctors or ability to verify documents as its all anonymous.
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-06/novak-djokovic-lands-in-melbourne-visa-issues/100740812

""
Yesterday, the decision was met with widespread criticism, but Tennis Australia and Victorian government officials say Djokovic was not given special treatment.

The Serb's exemption application was assessed by two separate panels who did not know the name, age or country of origin of the person making the application.

Tennis Australia said 26 people made vaccine exemption applications related to the Australian Open, and "only a handful" were granted.

Various countries have also accepted prior infection as equivalent to full vaccination.
""

Of course if you are travelling the world just get vaccinated in a place where you can buy a 'real' certificate and you are golden.

madness

why does Australian open need a panel if immigration was going to do the vetting?

i have a feeling that the govt actually initially approved it but stepped in to change the policy after the outcry

what a mess

Well many might say its not much , but the first vaccination numbers back up to 1307 yesterday.
https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/diseases-and-conditions/covid-19-novel-coronavirus/covid-19-data-and-statistics/covid-19-vaccine-data#daily

Taking my good news where I can find it.
I was expecting that we had reached saturation and that was about it for first doses.
Welcome to the club, that second is not far away now.
Not that other club, nor that one, you know what I mean, either way vaccinated is way to go.

Third doses 41K seems respectable too given time of year and capacity constrained ?

On Tennis, Wiggles, DJ's, Powerful Venture Capitalists.
Easily blindsided as they don't live in our world, just play in it, or with it.
Used to having things smoooooothed through, natural order of things.

A thousand first dose in a day is very good. Things stalled with less than a third of that given yesterday.

Ideally these first doses are in places like Murupara for obvious reasons.

People here can surely see and hear what is unfolding next door in Aus, we are socially and culturally like another state, almost every Kiwi has people in Australia.

Seeing the food limits for some Food chains announced on TV today from over there was something you see in war time. I know we have seen rationing here, and the media report on it, but to see actual specific instructions for all Australians on meat purchases on the ABC was fascinating (well apart from WA).

Just keep swimming...

We had leaks at about 50+ cases, at some point. Understand a bit has been done to tidy up since but if we are dealing with waning immunity from vaccinations in some people and a more infectious variant, it would suggest that an outbreak is inevitable, if it hasn't happened already and we just can't pick it up because everyone's in summer mode and not getting tested.

Better start taking my computer home from work in the evenings again.

What do you mean "start taking again"? I have been doing it for the last six months.

I've been walking around with mine everywhere I go like it's the presidential nuclear football for the last two years in case we get hit by a snap lockdown and I have to smash out a bunch of stuff at short notice.

I'd only just started to leave it at home when I go out an about! That was short-lived.
