A fully vaccinated man in his 20s who had no underlying health conditions has died of Covid-19 in NSW

He was double vaccinated too.

"NSW Health has revealed a fully vaccinated man in his 20s with no underlying conditions has died from Covid in hospital as Omicron continues to spread across the state."

It would be interesting to know if he had Omicron or Delta, but their testing system appears to be so overloaded, they might not even know.

"The positivity rate, from the 111,231 PCR tests processed in the 24 hours to 8pm on Wednesday, was 31.46 per cent."

How many cases (both Omicron and Delta) are you missing when the positivity rate is 31.46 per cent?

@Geektastic, you don't need to get a new vaccine pass. Currently the vaccine pass is only for the initial two course dosage.
I don't see them changing the conditions of a vaccine pass anytime soon.

The date on mine seems to be more or less a year since the original vaccinations. Not sure how that will help keep track of who's had boosters etc but as long as it works when scanned then 👍🏻

From my understanding they are valid for six months from when the pass was issued, or on 1 June 2022 if you were issued your Vaccine pass in December or later.

The media really needs to be careful about how they report things.

This isn't really that surprising and it doesn't (necessarily) mean anything nefarious. Probability is very low, but the more people infected the more likely one of them will get unlucky. Sadly, vaccination, age, health are never guarantees.

freitasm: This should be a police case now.

You would think so, but given officials only "tut tutted" over DJ idiot, I don't hold out much hope..

In my opinion, sneaking into a bar with a fake vaccine pass or similar is much worse than what happened with the DJ.

But sbiddle is right, we should save the pitchforks until all the information is known and even then wringing our hands about it won't achieve anything. It should be in the authorities hands now and they can figure out why an infected unvaccinated person was able to be in attendance. That could have ramifications for the individual or the establishment.

Anyway, it won't be funny if one day it causes a real pandemic.

Only just read the first page of this thread. Talk about an understatement...

Covid 19 Delta outbreak: Case in busy Auckland bar on New Year's Eve was unvaccinated - NZ Herald

A partygoer who is now isolating at home said the bar was scanning vaccine passes.

On its Facebook page, the Longroom said it was now open after speaking with the Ministry of Health.

"We would like to reassure all our friends and fans that we have followed the Ministry of Health's advice, and have also taken extra precautions to ensure the health and safety of all our staff and customers," the post said.

Then explain an unvaccinated person inside the bar. Or is it they are following it after the event so they could reopen?

The most likely explication is that a customer presented somebody elses vaccine pass to gain entry. Businesses are not required to check ID to verify identity.

Other possibilities:

  • Customer had a vaccine exemption so presented a valid vaccine pass.
  • Business was only verifying "reasonable number" of passes, not all of them, so missed the person that way.

I got one, But the information is all recorded digitally anyway.

My guess is the criteria for vaccine passes will change we hit the expiry date at the middle of this year.

I got given a purple card with "booster" written on it at the start of Dec.

These cards serve no purpose anyway and aren't valid for anything. Their main purpose was to simply provide a reminder card for the 2nd booking time/date, and they were needed early on by places that had vaccine mandates (ie if you need to access a MIF for work as an example)

Yep, Caroline McElnay IIRC said that recently. They all expire but the apps will update in due course.

As it turns out they were fully vaccinated.. The pitchforks were unnecessary.
