Except the media published a different story first.

RNZ relied on unconfirmed reports in their story without making this very clear it wasn't confirmed (they said "understood").. MoH corrected them pretty quickly but I guess it's the holidays so they weren't in a hurry to update things!

Geektastic: ... Not sure how that will help keep track of who's had boosters ...

They have this thing called computers that keep lots of digital records that can be read very quickly ... 😆😜😝

They do. However the date on my pass still says it expires 19/5/22.

That date bears no resemblance to my vaccination dates that I can work out and not did it change when I got a booster.

the date is 6 moths from when your applied fro the pass or the 1st of June (the latest it can be)

The booster doesnt change your local pass, as they havent worked out what they are doing with it yet, but you can see the info included on your international one.

it will show on my covid record as you having the booster and thats all you need, so no need to worry about it at this point.

Because there is no relationship. The booster wasn't even considered in the brief.

A fully vaccinated man in his 20s who had no underlying health conditions has died of Covid-19 in NSW

"NSW Health has revealed a fully vaccinated man in his 20s with no underlying conditions has died from Covid in hospital as Omicron continues to spread across the state."

The media really needs to be careful about how they report things.

This isn't really that surprising and it doesn't (necessarily) mean anything nefarious. Probability is very low, but the more people infected the more likely one of them will get unlucky. Sadly, vaccination, age, health are never guarantees.

Whether this is omicron or not, in bold is the threat that omicron poses more than any variant we have seen,

There will always be statistical outliers.

And there will always be people during massive surges who are told to stay home and look after themselves with daily emails rather than in person assessment.

The one thing we know works better than any therapy in the treatment of a Covid infection is early oxygen therapy.

A young man in home care who rings in distress and declares he is double vaccinated and has no comorbidities is never going to hear an operator tell him to go to hospital no matter what his symptom profile, because an telephone operator is operating off a triage sheet that says this guy should never go to hospital even if he says he thinks he is dying.

I worked in Triage, I ran interference an played gate keeper and deflected callers to stop the system over flowing and to ensure the critical got a crises response.

These types of rare deaths happen in an overloaded system. Were the same male in New Zealand at the time of his deterioration he would still be alive, I am almost certain of that because this meets the definition of a preventable death pending coroners case.

Just keep swimming...

Batman: this why media is always accused of publishing fake news. coz they do!

The NZ media generally does a good job of informing the public. The original article did not use an authoritative and attributed source and that was clear from the wording as I understand sbiddle's comment. And it was corrected. There's a big difference between any mainstream NZ media outlet and fake news.

Correct. And seeing @batman relies so much on media (based on links posted here), I'd like to point out there's a huge difference between fake news and incorrect news.

Fake news is misleading by design. It is deceiving. And most importantly it does not remove their articles even when they know they're intentionally and factually incorrect.

Some good news from my feed pointing to an end in sight?

https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/health/1543468/coronavirus-news-covid-risk-of-death-over-70s-vaccine-immunity-treatments

https://www.bbc.com/news/business-59876063.

From 04:00 GMT on Friday 7 January, people who are fully vaccinated and those aged under-18 will no longer need to take a test two days before travelling to England from countries outside the UK and the Common Travel Area. On arrival, they will have to take a PCR test but they will no longer have to self-isolate while awaiting the result

From 04:00 GMT on Sunday 9 January they will only have to take a lateral flow test instead of a PCR test on day two. But this test must be bought from a private test provider - free NHS tests are not allowed

Unvaccinated passengers will need to continue to take a pre-departure test, PCR tests on day two and day eight, and self-isolate for 10 days

I have friends working in Hospitals and the Medical system in OZ and they are noting that diarrhoea and dehydration are very common symptoms of Omicron... also sore throats headaches achiness.

I'm putting together some packs of electrolyte replacements and throat lozenges, along with Voltarin and ibuprofen for family members,

It may be worth thinking about getting some stuff in next time you are at the Chemist/Supermarket...

Omicron is coming and will probably get out of MIQ within the next month.....

As mentioned on the previous page, wording from RNZ was not clear and it was later updated.
