quickymart:

A friend of mine (from whatever former Yugoslavia is these days)

FYI isn't it Serbia, Croatia and Montenegro?

Serbia was big in the ethnic cleansing market in the not too distant past.

Plus Bosnia, Macedonia and Slovenia. I am guessing the friend is Serbian :)

Daynger

Here we were thinking their estimates of 25k cases per day at the end of Jan was going to be a terrible outcome that seemed crazily high numbers.

Not me.

We saw it completely roll over a Delta zone in South Africa, straight through the immunity wall. This was reinforced by the way omicron displaced Delta in the US and in the UK within a handful of weeks.

No virus any of us dreamed of should have been capable of doing that.

Delta is one of the most infectious things ever.

There was only every going to be one outcome, a million cases monster in vaccinated systems, because of the rate of break through being reported.

Not being a smart alec, I don't care about being called a naysayer I am only interested in the facts, whether positive in peoples hearts, or not so much.

You can see already that New Zealand will face more than two thousand hospital level admissions within the first wave. However, with the home care plan, a chunk of these will never get to second base, therefore hospitals will not overwhelm...rather they will buckle.

Private health care providers, the big ones like Southern Cross, will be required to cancel their case loads and to take on DHB overflow.

Staffing will run at twenty percent shortages rolling day on day.

You can project that NZ ambulance services, the 111 system will not be able to respond in a timely fashion to the call out volumes.

We can see already, that supermarkets will have significant shortages, however no one will starve to death.

The most at risk area will be kids, unless we manage to vaccinate the 5-11s. However even with that measure, admissions to kids units will hit max.

Omicron is not an atomic bomb super plague, it is an EMP weapon, most people survive the initial attack, the problems it causes are to systems and therefore the damage is collateral and people suffer from its indirect impacts on the things we ordinarily rely on.

Testing will be destroyed within days. Perhaps we will pull that back like the State of Victoria seems to be, with the online RATs testing reporting system...although....we need that set up now.

Just keep swimming...

freitasm: "I am fully vaccinated but freedoooom"

Something tells me your friend is not fully vaccinated.

I suspect you're right. This was a Whatsapp conversation btw; I wasn't actually speaking to him.

I think so, from memory he was from Belgrade (same as the tennis player).

That Novax guy comes across as an entitled so-and-so anyway. Comparing himself to Jesus for refusing the vaccine?? Spare me.

So my parents are in the US right now recovering from Covid which they got while visiting my dying brother.

No one in my family is complaining about them being stuck in the US because there is a global pandemic going on and we need to protect the unvaccinated children in this country.

I am sick to death of hearing from these people.

Just keep swimming...

Can we start a petition to get the MIQ software changed so she always gets position 9000 in the lobby.

even more so when they are just a fashion blogger and socialite on a holiday.

Corrected that for you. About as useful to society as bad breath.

Jamie Ridge? I remember that TV show with her and her Mum. Came across as stuck-up and spoilt. Newsflash sweetheart: you aren't anything special, you're just like the rest of us, and the fact you're a blogger (people still do this?) doesn't make you more important than anyone else. Enjoy waiting in the queue along with everyone else.
