Just. Shut. The. Border.

That way we can all get on with normal life whilst the scientists develop a vaccine that is even better.

The way the border is now appears to place 5+ million at significant risk merely for the benefit of a very few.

Can people then claim asylum? I'm guessing it is against international law to penalise asylum seekers. Can New Zealanders even seek asylum from New Zealand in New Zealand? Perhaps the transit loop hole will only work for foreigners.

We would lose our UN membership and our trading relationships if we turned our own citizens into refugees.

We would also incur global sanctions, become a pariah, and I will stop there before mentioning places like North Korea...

I doubt that since it would be temporary. Besides, the UN is just a pointless talking shop.

If the Person had maori heritage, that could also be can of worms. Prevent indigenous person from returning to the homeland. Surely a treaty breach on that one.

So the messaging is, prepare to look after yourselves, and help slow the curve.

This is the only message you could give to people with a monster wave like omicron, and it can help a lot.

Tasmania is doing an excellent job of slowing the wave and flattening the curve.

When I joined the forum, to comment on the in home care plan, I was somewhat blunt about it and used the phrase dying at home plan.

Appologies for raising some hackles, I have a better understanding of the zeitgeist of the thread now.

So I say this as a point of fact rather than to be negative....NSW have protected hospitals by gate keeping services, they do this in a myriad of ways in Healthcare, for example checking if the caller is fully vaccinated, if so, their priority status drops.

This is how we get the worst deaths ever during the pandemic, while I.C.U. stats look better than Delta. And this is how wards do not blow out.

New Zealand will not be able to run in home care effectively unless we manage to massively put pressure on the chains of transmission and that will happen if we all do our part.

The state cannot dig us out of this one alone, we all need to do our part.

And make sure we are stocked up, it really is a looming crises, excuse the bluntness but people need to know this is it, the big one.

Just keep swimming...

We already do. And this goes beyond the discussion topic of this thread but we already have separate classes of citizens.

And it shouldn't be this way. Got 0 tolerance on discriminations of all forms. Also we shouldn't breach our treaty nor cease our actual obligations.

Samoa,

That is sad, given infrastructure, although I gather they have done ok on vaccination 2 doses.
Children and third doses for vulnerable not so sure.

Given that reports in USA are naming Obesity as number 1 co-morbidity, next to age , and kidney and heart problems tag along with obesity.

Five flights have now been linked to the nine cases in the Nelson Tasman region reported yesterday will be listed today as locations of interest.

An Air New Zealand crew member on the same Auckland to Nelson flight as the nine cases has now tested positive.

It would be interesting to know if anyone is keeping a note of mask-exceptions on flights.
Under omicron it might need to be a case of no N95 no fly to be practical.
It must be tough to be aircrew, hopefully their families are also well vaccinated, so effects are mild.

Eek. I flew home from Nelson to Auckland on Thursday, appeared to have been after the at risk flights. I did notice on the flight the steward was unusually insistent and constantly reminding everyone to keep their masks on.

What percentage of n95 masks? Seems pointless enforcing the standard masks with Omicron on the horizon. Perhaps they need to leave a dead fish in the air conditioning to persuade people to use masks that actually work.

have you tried getting a n95 mask in NZ and you suddenly want millions to be found, not going to happen .

Common sense is not as common as you think.

I would not call over 2 year notice "suddenly". What sort of lead time does the government need?

for the first year and a bit we didnt have to wear masks and we were coping fine with Delta, Omicron has only been around for 2-3 months so again it is a bit hard trying to find millions of n95 masks on 2-3 months notice.
