Does this mean that Kiwis outside Australia can now go to Australia in anticipation of getting on a plane to NZ on 28 Feb?

If so, it's an unfortunate coincidence that Charlotte Bellis will still have to go through MIQ on the 27th. I wonder if her travel plans will suddenly become just a little more flexible.

You think it's a coincidence? 🤣

People are still doing the "transit to Fiji but refuse to board once in Akl", so I can't see remaining in Aus for 14 days being too much of an issue.

The smarmy grin on her face makes a mockery of the hard work everyone else has done to beat coronavirus.

There is a fine of between $4000 and $12000 if you return to NZ under the new regime and break the isolation rules. That's 10 days.

Anybody want to bet there won't be a single fine issued.

And you can mix with household members who are free to go about their normal lives.

I repeat - what is the point?

He will hold a loaf of bread while the bread is vaccinated !

Would not be surprised if its not straightforward and subject to some uncertainty.

Some of the commentary I've seen on Facebook from the antivaxx crowd are calling him a sellout, not standing for what he believes in (note: the virus doesn't care about things like this), and that some government forced him to get the vaccine.

Maybe he's just realised that if he wants to go anywhere with his tennis career now, he simply needs to get vaccinated.

Europe in Covid ‘ceasefire’ that could bring end of pandemic – WHO

Two years after the outbreak of Covid, Europe could soon enter a “long period of tranquility” due to high vaccination rates, the milder Omicron variant and the end of winter, the WHO said on Thursday.

“This period of higher protection should be seen as a ceasefire that could bring us enduring peace,” the WHO’s Europe director, Hans Kluge, told reporters. “This context, that we have not experienced so far in this pandemic, leaves us with the possibility for a long period of tranquility,” he added.

Europe would also be in a better position to fend off any resurgence in transmission, “even with a more virulent variant” than Omicron, he added.

“I believe that it is possible to respond to new variants that will inevitably emerge – without reinstalling the kind of disruptive measures we needed before,” Kluge said.
