And any contact you may still have with someone saying they're from the South Island is fake - they're paid crisis actors!

So, orange light tonight.

Who else thinks they are jumping the gun a bit as we still are getting 8000+ cases a day?

Who knows. For every person that thinks we are jumping the gun, the same number are saying why so long. Time will tell

A pertinent point for me, is he other day we reached 500 deaths. But only 51 were due to Covid. The rest had other causes but happened to have Covid as well.

Assuming there will be many more venues with more people, it will spread more. If thats a problem, its hard to know.

Politics and epidemics do not mix well.

This was a political decision, and a premature one, in my opinion.

Other countries have made the same mistake, to their cost.

Agree, I wonder what will happen here politically if it blows out

The Opposition is saying we should just scrap the traffic lights system altogether, although I don't know what their wonderful alternative would be.

Bottom right 2nd.table

https://www.health.govt.nz/covid-19-novel-coronavirus/covid-19-data-and-statistics/covid-19-case-demographics#deaths

It was separated and highlighted on the death count focus articles last few days.

Of the 51 deaths that have been officially coded as due to COVID-19, 4 occurred more than 28 days after testing positive. In addition, COVID-19 has been coded as contributing to 8 deaths. Of the deaths that occurred within 28 days, 1 have been ruled as not related to COVID-19 and 441 deaths are yet to be classified.

given there are less than half the anzac day services going ahead in Auckland i dont think it will be as big an issue as you think.

I'm thinking more of the 2 long weekends with those out partying it up at the bars and clubs.

That is very different from '... But only 51 were due to Covid. The rest had other causes but happened to have Covid as well.'

If it blows out, politically they probably think they are fine as the opposition is all for reducing restrictions. But with reducing vaccination immunity and more people inside over winter, and poor ventilation in unmasked schools , and windows not being left open due to the cold, I can't see how we won't have another wave over winter. Other countries are getting resurgents and we are going to get XE. I heard from a teacher that they are now getting students who are now getting their second infection.
