people have to remember that all the other countries where after lifting restrictions cases jumped , it was due to the BA 2 strain spreading and taking over the BA 1 strain, our wave is the BA 2 strain, we never had a BA 1 wave we went straight to the BA 2 wave. Denmark is good place to see what may happen . they have lifted all restrictions and they have gone from 40,000 cases of the BA 2 strain daily down to 2700 cases daily and dropping. So far no country who has had a BA 2 wave, like us,has gone through a second one.

It is a point in time, as the government has already warned there will be other variants and new waves. It is just a matter a time. We now have the XE variants and not much is known yet about it.

Not that they were taking them very seriously anyway...

But seems chc airport McDonald's has taken orange as a signal to remove all the counter shields many retailers were quick to install.

Funny how everyone seems to have their own take on announcements. It's like some seem to think changing things slightly makes the organisms listen and change ways too

There s a new variant of every virus everyday.

I have other things to worry about.

And one day it will be my time to go, then it's my time. Won't be covid, statically as likely as winning powerball.

I did not get a reminder for my child's booster. I called up the 0800 to book it. Oh by the way, wondering why I did not get a reminder for this? The agent said reminders are sent only for adults something about MOH campaign. That is an odd decision if it's true. We hit eight weeks three days ago if it matters.

DS248:

Of the 51 deaths that have been officially coded as due to COVID-19, 4 occurred more than 28 days after testing positive. In addition, COVID-19 has been coded as contributing to 8 deaths. Of the deaths that occurred within 28 days, 1 have been ruled as not related to COVID-19 and 441 deaths are yet to be classified.

That is very different from '... But only 51 were due to Covid. The rest had other causes but happened to have Covid as well.'

I'd like to see this process happen faster so we can know the "real" numbers. But even then I see a problem with the ones that are determined as "COVID contributing to death", because how much did it contribute? It could simply mean that an elderly person died a week earlier than they would have otherwise.

How old is your child?

16 and 17 year olds only just became eligible (maybe a few weeks ago). Below that, no boosters.

I take your meaning but this part is a little bit flippant. For example an elderly person with pneumonia need not have died at all in many cases if they had been able to avoid the circumstances of getting it.

i was told by a reliable source that much less than 50% of all covid hospitalizations are actually due to covid, more often than not (>>> 50%) are in hospital for unrelated reasons

this is the bigger can of worms for me. how many actually get sick? how many vaccinated/unvaccinated? i guess we will never know. in some ways my antivax friends cannot be proven right / wrong

Under 11. Vaxxed Feb 15. No boosters?

Interesting. They just said no reminders and were happy to book a booster. I'll look into it.

Yes, I expect something like this is mostly true. You'll also have a caught it in hospital category.

But that's my point. There's a scale of how much COVID has contributed to many of the deaths, some would have died anyway and some wouldn't have - but both will be classified as COVID contributing to death.
